I rented a uhaul van in Anchorage put a air mattress and a sleeping bag in the back and took off. I bought oatmeal, noodles, and canned soup and heated them up on a propane burner. It was the cheapest way to visit where I needed to be. Where theres a will theres a way I guess. The pinks and chum were in the streams and the silvers were starting. I really enjoy catching chums. Pound for pound they are the hardest fighting and no one else fishes for them. I also did some hiking in Seward and Hatchers pass

Nice, thanks for posting.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Hard to believe there's land that pretty left in this old world. Looks like you died and went to Heaven.

What's going on with that poor ol moose? Looks like something got ahold of her?

It's really nice to see someone take the bull by the horns and actually do what so many dream and talk about.

As good as these pics are, and they are good, they do not and cannot do justice to what that state looks like in person.
The wife and I were in Alaska in late may. I was gobsmacked! The mosquitoes behaved themselves all the way up until the very last day of May. The problem is, if you want to have success fishing, it seems that you have to wait until the mosquitoes get thick.
If I ever get a chance to make it back there, I will be sure that the mosquitoes are in full force. smile
Fish or no fish we had an amazing time.

Chums are a kept secret, pull hard anytime and good eating, especially smoked when caught at tidewater!

I love the smell of burning spruce---I love the sound of a spring time goose---I love the feel of 40 below---from my trapline I will never go!

Thanks everyone
"As good as these pics are, and they are good, they do not and cannot do justice to what that state looks like in person". nope. The mosquitoes were spotty. I fished sheep creek and I don't recall being bit, later I went a few miles up the road and they were pretty bad

I really like chums. I know of a lodge on the AK Peninsula that sort of caters to older gentlemen who don't want the struggle of wrestling with kings, but still want a respectable fight, so they target chums; a lot more action too.

How many days did you spend in Alaska? Did you drive there?
