I know it’s not from the same stump but is it? This is on my 40 acres and I don’t think I’ve ever seen this . Got a sugar maple and a tulip popular basically growing out of the same stump

Looks like side by side growth to me. I'd say two stumps

I would say they are starting to grow together.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Yep.

Sprouted side by side and are growing into one another. Cool to see.

That a popamaple. Better check around and see if you have any momamaple. If so they will multiply and take over your whole woods if you don't nip it in the bud!

If you're going to have any poplar cut................find someone who's barking it. If you have any Amish in your area, that's where to look first.

Around here, the bark is worth as much as the lumber. They peel it off and it's used for siding houses. THEN you still have the peeled logs that you can sell to a lumber mill. Never bad to get paid twice for the same timber.

Real common if ya do much hiking in the mountains. Not uncommon to see half a dozen coming from one base, stump or whatever ya wanna call it.

Remind me around Thanksgiving, our deer season, and ill get you some pics of them.

I have seen that happen often .It is a neat thing Some species of trees seem to be more prone to it .There was a popular that had 5 trunks seemingly come from one stump in an area I use to archery hunt

Never seen bark used like that before. I wonder how well bark siding shingles hold up? Is it just poplar or other species as well? I have a couple of big poplar laying ready to go to the mill and 6-8 more big ones dying from something. Very interesting.

Eh...wot?

There is a tree not far from me in town where a tulip poplar and a red maple grew so close together up to 30 feet high, it resulted in one round trunk. these trees are huge, probably 80 feet.
The only way you can tell that it is two trees is the significant difference in bark texture. There aren't any significant fissures or rough seam where they come together. I need to get by there once the leaves drop and get some pics of the entire trunk.

I have done quit a bit of this bark peeling ,the moneys good but the work is not good , its very heavy , the tree has to be cut ,and peeled on the spot , no cuts scrapes or dirt can be on it , if its from a dying tree its no good ,or yellow / flaky bark. it cant dry out to where the cambium layer cracks THATS THE TRICKY PART , once delivered its sorted and sized then dry kiln very flat. Allen Jacksons house is done with it , its supposed to last eighty years Go figure. And i need to add its strictly watched over business ,You have to be a master logger to sale, or they have to know you good and have all you tax info and personal info. thats just a precaution so the meth heads wont strip yor popaler trees in the middle of the night.
