Always hunted with walkers as a kid, a few years ago a friend was going through some hard times and was about to get rid of his hound so we adopted him, (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) of a hunter, big male walker, runs trail great, trees hard, and absolutely despises coon with every ounce of his 75 lb frame. When hunting he is the absolute bullheadest dog I have ever seen, he will not quit until he goes trees, so if it’s a bad night or bad area you better have your walk-in shoes on, plenty of gas in the truck, and new batteries in the gps handheld.

life is good......

I’ve had dogs get into silos, barns, garages, culverts…tree coons right outside people’s bedroom window, tree coon in people’s backyard next to bird feeders…there’s never a shortage of excitement!

Those kind of dogs aint cheap.

I been out of it for awhile now. If that they are still breeding and starting dogs that would sure enough be a good place to start. My advice is dont buy a started or finished dog either one till you see it hunt. By itself. Not with another dog.

Yep alone and on the tree thats where I buy em.

I'm a redbone girl. Alton Key lives in WI and could probably turn you on to a good hound if you were interested. But these will be competition style hounds. So as others suggested if you don't want a hard driving dog, these probably won't be for you. If you want his phone number just send me a PM

I agree - get a Mt Cur. Coon hunt at night and squirrel hunt by day. Will be the best pet your kids ever had. Might be a little over protective of the family, though

I sure love my hounds! They’re all just cross bred from Southwest bear and lion dogs. The bluetick in the back goes back to some Smokey River stuff but she’s just a grade dog. The brindle is my best dog but getting some age to her. She looks like a plott but is probably 3/4 to 7/8 bluetick. She is a lion and bear catching maniac and is as gritty as they come.

Man, these threads get me ever time. I haven't heard a hound strike track in a long while, I miss that. I switched to curs and feist cause I couldn't keep up with them anymore. Been a while since I've had a dog. I'd love to get another one that was broke and a house trained dog. Nothing better then hunting coons and squirrels with a good dog.

I think WhiteCliffs and Dillrod nailed it, unless you absolutely cannot do without hearing a hound do it's thing, and I get that!

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

This is blue 9 year old blue tick . Those pictures was from his last hunt he will ever do , it was about 3 weeks ago on a cooler night which I thought he should be able to handle it but I was wrong . Blue has developed some breathing problem in the last few years . He was a bawl on track and a chop on tree . He will spent the rest of his time on the chain just relaxing.

Probably the best coon dog I’ll ever have the pleasure to hunt with. Back when I was a younger man and could hunt every night. He was a grade redbone.

Get a hound to go for the sound - get a cur to go for the fur.

Both will get you fur. The dogs will do their job. The only difference is us, aging...
