We have a few chickens we let wonder about the yard during the day and lock them in there coop at night. Yesterday my daughter found one of them killed by something. Clearly a predator not an illness. What ever it was only ate the head and neck, both were cleaned to the bone. No other part of the bird was touched. What ever it was stopped feeding once it reached the wish bone. Anyone else experience this or maybe can explain what critter maybe to blame. I've looked it up and found the Great horned owl will do this, but it happened during the day and wasn't sure if that was the guilty one for they normally hunt at night.

Good chance it was a owl, even in the day. They young of the year are starting to fly and hunt for themselves.

Redtail hawks will do that too, don't know if you have them in Minnesota, we have a lot here in PA.

I don't get over to count much on the MN side but on the WI side hardly drive 10 minutes some days without seeing 1

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I think that there is some kind of a hawk migration going on right now. they are every place here. Flying and sitting in the trees, no pattern......jk

Just watched a red tail hawk dive down into a flock of chickens that were to far from cover, He caught one & the rest moved like they had jet up their butt.
