In Illinois what are the laws/rules of my neighbors cows coming onto my hunting property? I have no livestock. Who is responsible to keep them off my land?? Thankd I would say the owner.

if his health is that bad that may be a very good idea you take the most problematic cow off his hands and fix up the fence some Ask for a cow for fixing his fence for him. Sounds like you could benefit and help out at the same time. if nothing else it is a polite way of pushing the solution.

In Mo, I believe 1/2 the fence and maint belongs to ea property owner.

Yes i have kindly asked the farm hand three times to keep the cows of my property. The land owner/cow owners health has declined to the point he can not physically do anything or take care of the cows. When he (the owner) was younger he did a descent job of keeping them off the property but now the fence is in bad shape because of no upkeep. There's your first mistake, talking to the guy who is probably being paid to take cafe of this stuff...but isnt. Talk to the man in charge, then if no satisfactioh, involve the law.

If there cows keep getting out, perhaps they're not feeding them enough. Newborn has a simular situation. His cows are fat and are kept in by one stand of electric fence. Even if they do get out they don't go far. His neighbors pasture is barren and even with a good fence, they get put and raise havoc in others fields. Also check to see if your state is a fence in" or fence "out" state.
Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

Forget talking to the hired hand, talk to the owner and let him know you have spoken to the hired hand a number of times. Normally it is the responsibility of the owner to keep livestock within the confines of their property. A guy that used to lease land and run cows next to me had his cows get out and got sued for the cost of damages to another neighbor's lawn. A little time on Google and you might find the applicable ordinance for your state/local. It's not just about lawns and food plots, livestock outside their fences get out on to roadways also. That can be deadly and can't be tolerated. Depends. If it is open range like here and you hit a cow on the highway, you are at fault and have to pay for the cow. I'm guessing Illinois isn't open range, but I don't know.

If he's unable to fix it and his hired hand isn't doing his job. Talk to the owner, explain the situation and maybe you can fix the fence for mutual benefit. Paid or unpaid his supplies and call it a day. Good fences make good neighbors and helping a neighbor is priceless.

Ask for a cow for fixing his fence for him. Sounds like you could benefit and help out at the same time. I like this idea.
Eh...wot?
