Had a Trapper/Rancher friend ask me if I would make him a recovery hook for his side by side.
He seen my Wolf Drag's and it give the idea.
I gotta say I could have used one a time or two. [Linked Image]

Nicely done!
I have something for the purpose, but very different.
Bought it fromCabelas. It is a tapered V. Never needed it.
Honestly, I like your concept much better.
In the design, could you make one that would lay flat?
Either pivot, or sections pinned together?

Next, could you make one for an F-350 diesel?

A buddy wanted something like that, I suggested he buy a small Danforth anchor, light weight, folds flat, and holds a bunch of weight.

I could make a pivot one, but this is what he wanted.
Pickup one would have to be heavy duty.
More than I want to take on.
Thanks for the in put everyone.

what happens when it lets go and you have a lot of tension on the cable ?

isn't that the reason everyone was switching to straps , soft shackles and am-steel rope , so that it wouldn't have the energy to do damage when it lets go?

just asking , I don't know if it would or would not be an issue.

I have an all time dumb question. What’s the purpose of this recovery hook?

I assumed steep terrain you can't get up for lack of traction or stuck in mud and no trees around to get a strap around.

but also interested in intended terrain use

Most of off road trails in Alaska! Actually don’t even need a trail to loose a rig in a hole!

I made this one that folds up by pulling a couple of pins. The way its made, the harder you pull, the deeper it goes into the ground. I got stuck in the snow 3 miles back in off the road with nothing to hook winch to. I also mounted a winch in the back, so can pull either direction.

Get an aluminum Danforth anchor. Use it in boat or ATV.

I like that, looks well worth it.
Specially when stuck right.

i made a couple similar to LDW from scrap. Used a Pull Pal as a model. Actual use on a stuck Can Am Defender 6x6 loaded dictated a few changes. 1/4" inch bolts not enough to hold plow on. 3/8" quick clip pins not enough for all the hinge points. 3/8" grade 8 bolts did the job.

Ill post later or you can look for it Army Recovery what essentially is the Army's version of recovery with vehicles. It has some great methods in there along with the formula you can use to see what type of log you would need to get yourself unstuck. Its kind of crazy they have this M88 vehicle that can daisy chain together if need be to get anything unstuck in any condition.
