I get the combo drive that takes Philips or Robertson (square) drive. No, no, no, star or torx drive is the only way to go. Whoever invented philips drive ought to be slapped.  I agree Torx is the only thing I use any more

then I started looking at the grain and they were laid the direction they came off the pile about half of them would have already been upside down and should have cupped. That's why I said "if". lol

yes in addition to coated screws intended for pressure treated decking I went up a size and all new pre drilled holes heating of the screw going into the wood sometimes takes the temper of of the steel and they snap

Two companies make systems that put screws they the edge of the boards. Camo and Kreg. Next time I do a deck surface will try the Kreg system. I like their pocket screw system.
