I'd rather have a full tank of gas than be running on fumes.

I have never shot 500 rounds on a Saturday but I do keep a good amount of 22 Ammo. Probably 8-10,000 rounds. When I shoot each round is carefully aimed as to make sure sights are true. An average shooting session for me is probably 25 rounds or so. When I was a kid I would pick up pop bottles for the deposit and buy 22 rounds in 50 count boxes to plink with in my 22. could ride my bike to any local hardware store and buy as many as I wanted at 10 years old. Sad that things have gotten so out of hand with ammo.

That's about a week of target shooting if you don't go crazy on the range. I fail to understand the problem. confused

Another thing is that when the SHTF, which seems closer daily, .22lr as well as any ammo is now currency. Money will be worthless. Even silver and gold will not be worth as much as ammo. .22lr will be literally worth it's weight in gold. It's a survival round. Just about everyone that owns firearms has at least 1 22lr., anyone can shoot it, it can take down anything from a small bird to a deer with a head shot. If you had to, you can defend yourself with it. Yup, you can't have enough .22lr

If you have no practical plan to use it, its hoarding. Especially of nondurable goods.

When there is a major shortage of something like rifled 20 gauge slugs and the store puts out 20 boxes and someone grabs all 20 of them, that is hoarding. No one is going to shoot 100 20 gauge slugs anytime soon and they are denying someone else the possibility of shooting or hunting that year.

Or worse, they're gonna try to sell them for a BIG profit, that's called gouging! The American way.

Ok I had to count 9500+or-a couple hundred. I shoot mostly CCI segmented subsonics in my Marlin 39A and Mini Mags in my Remington 552 so that is usually all that I buy now but I have a mix of other 22 ammo that I have found on sale over the years, 500 rounds of 22CB that was given to me and some 22 shorts also. I have a lot of 20 gauge slugs and 12 gauge slugs from before Indiana opened rifles for deer. Would always buy a few boxes each year to sight in and hunt. That all being said if someone needed ammo I would share what I had. I load my own rifle ammo and If survival was the goal I would grab a 223 or as my one gun. The 243 is my favorite caliber and another gun that will do almost anything.

Reading thru the comments, find it humorous to see where one man's modest stash........is hoarding to another, and borderline panic city, running on fumes nightmare to another.

I've given up on judging what others do..........their business. Having said that, it would seem that some guys will burn thru more ammo in a month than I have in my entire lifetime. So my modest stash would not last them very long........yet I'd wager that when it hits the fan, I'll be the last guy around to run out. Usually, when I bust a cap, something dies. One shot.....one kill. Mag dumps are not on my color wheel.

Some of the guys that ought to do things different are the clay bird shooters. Guys that shoot 500 targets or more a week. To hear them complain they can't find shot falls on deaf ears. They need to be shooting on ranges that are setup to recover their shot. Like a golf driving range. The way they do it now is not unlike guys hitting new Titleists into the weeds.....then complaining they can't find any new balls to buy.

You asked and answered your own question . YES IT IS HOARDING the second you said , and I quote, "I REALLY DON'T NEED THEM "
But your money spend it how you like .
Lot of us have stuff we don't "NEED" . But we own it anyway I got 5 boxes of 16 gauge shotshells. Never owned a 16 guage. But it was in a bunch of guns and ammo I bought few years back........

Nothing wrong with buying ammo for a gun you dont have and dont ever plan to have if you want to horse trade to those that do have that particular caliber. But buying it and dont have the capacity to sell/trade it when needed is when you become a hoarder.

Many of us believe ammo will be like currency in the future. Also, with Washington, DC, behaving the way they are toward guns and ammo, we never know when they will do something stupid. I'm from the one shot/one kill school, so my magazine will be smaller than others. I guess I see stockpiling and hoarding as subjective to the circumstance of the shooter. I do agree with the comment about skeet and trap shooters. I am a shotgunner, but it is for hunting and home defense. I also reload shells. The mass purchases of reloading supplies and shotshells by competition shooters are unreal. During shortages, no one person should be allowed to buy out a vendor's stock. I realize it is America, but we should be considerate of other shooters. Some people I know started from scratch in 2019/2020 and still have trouble finding enough ammo to make a supply. What began as a post is becoming a sermon. I apologize.

Good find. Walmart in my area hasn't had anything over 100 rd boxes since pre-COVID.
