I remember the good old days....... 20 years ago.
I would go to town buy a box of ammo and go to the range and have some fun. I never had more than a couple hundred rounds of .22 in the cabinet ever. Now everyone is hoarding it. Who really needs 20,000 rounds of .22? Who is DOWN to only 20,000 rounds?
I have nothing clever to put here.

Got an opportunity to buy another 5600 good quality .22 long rifle shells for a good price and I'm going to do it. Thing is, I've already got nearly triple that amount in the safe. I really don't need them. But I've got to have them. You know like, if a lots good, a lot more is better. Anybody else have similar compulsive behaviors? That's about a week of target shooting if you don't go crazy on the range. I fail to understand the problem.

Another thing is that when the SHTF, which seems closer daily, .22lr as well as any ammo is now currency. Money will be worthless. Even silver and gold will not be worth as much as ammo. .22lr will be literally worth it's weight in gold. It's a survival round. Just about everyone that owns firearms has at least 1 22lr., anyone can shoot it, it can take down anything from a small bird to a deer with a head shot. If you had to, you can defend yourself with it. Yup, you can't have enough .22lr

Or worse, they're gonna try to sell them for a BIG profit, that's called gouging! The American way.

Reading thru the comments, find it humorous to see where one man's modest stash........is hoarding to another, and borderline panic city, running on fumes nightmare to another.
I've given up on judging what others do..........their business. Having said that, it would seem that some guys will burn thru more ammo in a month than I have in my entire lifetime. So my modest stash would not last them very long........yet I'd wager that when it hits the fan, I'll be the last guy around to run out. Usually, when I bust a cap, something dies. One shot.....one kill. Mag dumps are not on my color wheel.
Some of the guys that ought to do things different are the clay bird shooters. Guys that shoot 500 targets or more a week. To hear them complain they can't find shot falls on deaf ears. They need to be shooting on ranges that are setup to recover their shot. Like a golf driving range. The way they do it now is not unlike guys hitting new Titleists into the weeds.....then complaining they can't find any new balls to buy.

YES IT IS HOARDING the second you said , and I quote, "I REALLY DON'T NEED THEM " But your money spend it how you like . Lot of us have stuff we don't "NEED" . But we own it anyway I got 5 boxes of 16 gauge shotshells. Never owned a 16 guage. But it was in a bunch of guns and ammo I bought few years back........

Many of us believe ammo will be like currency in the future. Also, with Washington, DC, behaving the way they are toward guns and ammo, we never know when they will do something stupid. I'm from the one shot/one kill school, so my magazine will be smaller than others. I guess I see stockpiling and hoarding as subjective to the circumstance of the shooter. I do agree with the comment about skeet and trap shooters. I am a shotgunner, but it is for hunting and home defense. I also reload shells. The mass purchases of reloading supplies and shotshells by competition shooters are unreal. During shortages, no one person should be allowed to buy out a vendor's stock. I realize it is America, but we should be considerate of other shooters. Some people I know started from scratch in 2019/2020 and still have trouble finding enough ammo to make a supply. What began as a post is becoming a sermon. I apologize.
