I use a lot of poison blocks in out buildings. I just toss them behind freezers or cabinets.

Don't forget to anchor those traps

Several years ago, I saw a mouse in my garage and placed four traps baited with cheese. The next morning, the traps were still set, but the cheese was gone even what was squeezed into the rolled trigger.

Rebaited with peanut butter with the same results the next morning. Nothing but set traps with the bait gone. A quick call to Victor revealed mice love chocolate. I quickly rebaited the traps with chocolate chips I melted. When they cooled off, they became welded to the trap.

I placed them in the garage and checked one hour later and had 4 mice! They couldn’t resist the chocolate (female mice?). I reset the traps and had the other 4 in the morning. The mice don’t seem to care how old the chocolate is, I catch one about every six months. I’ve heard a piece of tootsie roll works too.

Good luck!

I use the old possumskinner method of trapping mice. Get the big yellow pan traps and set them perpendicular to the walls and tight. Rats and mice hug the walls, no bait needed for this.

If this is the first time you’ve had mice you must be doing something right, lol. I don’t know of ANYONE that lives in the country that doesn’t get mice in the house about twice a year. I saw one about three weeks ago and the wife set out the sticky traps. Caught three in the first hour, lol. Caught two more that night and two more the next night. Night number three produced one and night five the last one. Nothing since. Will get some again in February when it finally turns “cold” here.

Yes!! When I had some that was being a pain, I used a piece of tootsie roll.
Haven’t had one hard to catch in a while, don’t know if they even make tootsie rolls anymore

There have likely been mice in every house, in every location you have ever lived. Whether you saw them or not, they were there. The best thing you can do outside of what some people recommended, is find the hole they are getting in and cover it up. I probably slayed 12-15 a year with the snap traps until I fixed the hole they were coming in at. Believe it or not, they actually are beneficial, obviously not inside the house. Goodluck, its not a big deal at all, just part of it.

I have an old farm house parts are probably well over 100 years old. Every fall we get mice in the house. If I see one there are more. We have way to many cats and kittens. Most are outside but 2 In the house. Cats won't get them all or make it so there won't be any.. they do reduce the population and potential problems but some still make it into the house. Those neve last long between my two master trappers.

I don't see many mice in the barns or out buildings. When the cat population gets low you can tell they make a difference.

Cats help but you may still need to do some trapping from time to time.

In our old farmhouse, there were always mice getting in. It just was not possible to seal all the holes. It had a rubble foundation so they would just dig their way in to the crawlspace.
I came up with a trick for the ones that were educated and hard to catch (not saying nobody else has figured it out). It works very well for barn rats also.

If you have an issue with them licking your bait off the trigger and not setting off the trap, try this:

Push the pan to the side and drill a 1/4" hole through the wood under the center of the pan. Stuff that hole with peanut butter, bacon grease, chocolate or whatever bait you choose and set the trap. The rodent is then forced to stick his nose under the pan if he wants access to the treat and you get a nice, clean catch behind the ears.

Just happy to be here.

I spent two months in hospital with my wife, I didn't know mice moved into my garage.
I trapped 14, poisoned probably that many more, they are still eating the poison

Me too. The blind sets catch more mice, for me. After years of living the same house, I know the best locations to put my sets for a quick catch.

When I do bait traps, I like to use raisins. They stick on the trap very good if you mash them on good. This bait also lasts a long time - stays plenty sweet and sticky for a long time.

Get a rat terrier.
It's their job and they take it seriously.
