Headed to Maine for a combo hunt moose and bears.

I know this is a long shot, but I really want to trap a bear in Maine. Anyone know of someone who would be willing to help me out with that? I understand I can get one by hunting and another tag to get one trapping. I'll be there two weeks and would like to get something set up if I can work it in. Thanks in advance.

Bernie, I tried to send a private message, but your mailbox is full. If your guide has active baits, it is easy to trap a bear at one of them. The problem will be to keep the 90 pounders out of your trap. IMO, the best way is an Aldrich type trap with a trail set. Lots of people are now using the Crit-R-Done traps. The CRD's are easier to use if you don't know how to properly make a trail set with an Aldrich. Your best bet for trapping would be to get on the Maine Bear Trapping facebook page and hire an experienced guide to supply the trapping gear and help you set it up.

I was thinking with cages or foot snares

Bernie, what is your lifetime total of bears? You seem to be a real avid bear hunter. Good luck in Maine.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Man, I have no idea what you are talking about. All I got out of this was that there is a funeral for a Queen on Monday??

Videos of most of the hunts are on the YouTube channel. Photos in magazines as well. My exploits have been heavily documented so it's out there if you look for it.

I deleted a bunch of old PM's so it should work now.

I tried it in Maine about 10 years ago, but the guy who was helping me didn't know much about how to do it properly I don't think. I actually caught 3 bears in 4 days but all of them pulled right out. Always wanted to go back and learn how to do it right.

Since my guide is native and we are hunting native land, I don't think he would be willing to allow another bear to be taken by a snare. In fact, it's probably against tribal rules.

I see there are some Passamaquoddy lands there in the Jackman area. I’ve deer hunted there in the past. Beautiful area in the fall. Jackman is on the Quebec border, I'm on the opposite side of the state bordering New Brunswick.

Back in the late 70's, I sold a couple of prime bears to a guy that was buying particular h[des to be made into those hats. Details are in the fog that used to be my brain.

I haven't stayed at Bishops Motel in Jackman for about 20 years. Back then it was like going back to the 1960's.

I love the Jackman area. I took a couple bears there back in 2008-2009 and then drew a zone 8 moose tag and based out of Jackman in 2010. It was a great hunt.

That would have probably been Phil Patterson who worked for the HBC for 40+ years and was the main buyer of bear for the Royal Guard of Buckingham Palace.
