I don't want mice in my house, but I sure don't want any cats. I consider them vermin too. I give this quote two thumbs up

Don't forget to anchor those traps

Several years ago, I saw a mouse in my garage and placed four traps baited with cheese. The next morning, the traps were still set, but the cheese was gone even what was squeezed into the rolled trigger.
Rebaited with peanut butter with the same results the next morning. Nothing but set traps with the bait gone. A quick call to Victor revealed mice love chocolate. I quickly rebaited the traps with chocolate chips I melted. When they cooled off, they became welded to the trap.
I placed them in the garage and checked one hour later and had 4 mice! They couldn’t resist the chocolate (female mice?). I reset the traps and had the other 4 in the morning. The mice don’t seem to care how old the chocolate is, I catch one about every six months. I’ve heard a piece of tootsie roll works too.
Good luck! Thank you for the great advice.

Good luck! Yes!! When I had some that was being a pain, I used a piece of tootsie roll. Haven’t had one hard to catch in a while, don’t know if they even make tootsie rolls anymore

Saw a small mouse run across the basement floor a couple days ago. Put out 6 victor snap traps where i saw him run and got him in an hour, at least assumed it was him. I have seen no droppings or evidence of mice before, but havent looked terribly hard. Came downstairs tonight and saw another. First time in three years ive seen any in our house, they are in our outbuildings though. Got a couple outdoor cats lined up to pick up next week. Am i losing my man card as a trapper for calling someone to un-mouse the house? Hoping some ADC guys chime in here. Two small kids I dont wanna mess around with hantavirus or who knows what else they carry. There have likely been mice in every house, in every location you have ever lived. Whether you saw them or not, they were there. The best thing you can do outside of what some people recommended, is find the hole they are getting in and cover it up. I probably slayed 12-15 a year with the snap traps until I fixed the hole they were coming in at. Believe it or not, they actually are beneficial, obviously not inside the house. Goodluck, its not a big deal at all, just part of it.

In our old farmhouse, there were always mice getting in. It just was not possible to seal all the holes. It had a rubble foundation so they would just dig their way in to the crawlspace. I came up with a trick for the ones that were educated and hard to catch (not saying nobody else has figured it out). It works very well for barn rats also.
If you have an issue with them licking your bait off the trigger and not setting off the trap, try this:
Push the pan to the side and drill a 1/4" hole through the wood under the center of the pan. Stuff that hole with peanut butter, bacon grease, chocolate or whatever bait you choose and set the trap. The rodent is then forced to stick his nose under the pan if he wants access to the treat and you get a nice, clean catch behind the ears.
Just happy to be here.

I use the old possumskinner method of trapping mice. Get the big yellow pan traps and set them perpendicular to the walls and tight. Rats and mice hug the walls, no bait needed for this. Me too. The blind sets catch more mice, for me. After years of living the same house, I know the best locations to put my sets for a quick catch. When I do bait traps, I like to use raisins. They stick on the trap very good if you mash them on good. This bait also lasts a long time - stays plenty sweet and sticky for a long time.

Get a rat terrier. It's their job and they take it seriously.
