Me and some friends are going on a hunting trip. When I Google the drive time from pittsburg ks to lolo Montana it says 1500 miles and 22 hrs. To do this we would have to average 68 mph for 22 hrs. Is this possible? I do not take many long trips so I don't know how accurate this is.

Your overthinking what google says. The miles are likely correct but driving time depends on your normal comfort speed. It sounds like 2 days driving each way anyway. Enjoy!

Depends on the highway. Is it interstate or 2 lane state roads?

When you get to South Dakota and Montana the speed limits are higher. You can travel faster if you are comfortable doing that. The scenery in nice. I would take 2 days to do it.
I drive from Peoria IL to an hour past Sheridan Wyoming in a day. I leave at 3am and get the around 7 pm driving the speed limit or close to it. I stop for gas and snack to whole time. It's possible to drive it all at once if you switch off. 2 people can do it. You just have to make sure you switch when you get tired and one person doesn't try to be a hero. You can fall asleep fast. Make sure you do not let your gas gage get below 1/4 tank on the long stretched in South Dakota - you might be squeezing your gas out of the steering wheel...

Just passin through

Google doesn't count in fuel or restroom needs as well as some detours.

That trip is a whole lot of interstate that is 75-80 mph speed limits.

in wide open country, I suspect you can easily meet this average, especially with multiple drivers. Are you driving non-stop?

I have made a lot of 1,000 mile+ trips over the years using google maps, usually the quickest route according to google. I usually come in pretty darn close to their time estimate including the necessary stops as long as I do not run in to a major delay due to a crash. I do not let grass grow and usually eat on the go so stops take minimal time and I must not stick out like a sore thumb either as I have not had a ticket in years.

And the earlier poster is correct about the interstates in SD and MT. With the speed limit at 80, you can push the average up quite a bit.

My son regularly leaves Reno and makes it to Indianapolis 2052 miles in 2 long days by himself hauling a trailer. He stops in eastern Wy or western Ne for a nap and back on the road. I bet 2 of you can do this in 22 or 23 hours.

Only one way to find out. The gps told me 32 hrs for 2300 miles, I was out there this spring, and that’s about what it was in actual driving time. Like others said, lots of interstate, stops, etc. I spread it out over 3 days to sight see out and on the way back did it in two days, two long driving days. I am one with my pickup now.

After reading the replies I feel better now. I just didn't want to cut ourselves short as we have a target time to arrive.

I drive the speed limit in town but out on the open highway I drive 5 over. Never got a ticket or even stopped anywhere in the country for it. 5 over for sevearl hours will mak a difference.

If you can stay on the Interstates, and avoid construction and accident delays, you can make really good time. For example, I70, I80, and I90 all pass with Pa within 80 miles of the house. They all lead to Western destinations. I80 passes through my county….22 miles of state highway and interstate the whole way to Salt Lake City.
