I have a Sitka winter coat that is really warm. It was a present as is all my camo which is mostly kryptek now. I didn’t like my Sitka pants. Always getting holes in them and my wife was patching them after every season.

I have worn Sitka for 3 years now. Been all over the country waterfowl hunting wearing their gear. Bottom line, it keeps me dry and warm. I got it for 40% off, win win. I'm not the weekend warrior type, we kill around a thousand ducks/geese each season in some nasty places all freelance, no guide pit blind hunts. I will agree the zippers suck, but if you put some wd40 or gun oil on them they are smooth as butter. I do not miss the junk I would buy from Cabelas at all. Being wet and cold is a distant memory. I think if I wore Kuiu the ducks would see me from outer space. I'd wear a red flannel before I wore a camo pattern that looked like that

I call em Kardashians.

Show up to hunt in their $1500 outfits.

Most never make it more than a half mile from the truck or atv, but darn they look good driving around!

Sitka is good quality clothing but ridiculously overpriced. Huntworth is the best value for the money, high quality clothing for way less than sitka. I have a promo code for huntworth, if you buy off their website, you'll get 20% off with this code BBB-20. You will love this stuff. www.huntworthgear.com

Boone, I did 150 miles of hiking in the Wind River Range in Wyoming wearing Sitka gear, what does that make me? grin

I was given a pair of Sitka pants and I really like them. Very comfortable and pretty durable, this will be the 4th trapping season for them. I just won’t pay that price. Your offer looks interesting, Thank You !

Based off of my experience I find this commit a little dramatic and I've done a little bit of work and hunting in sub zero weather.

The best thing about the folks who 'need' to have the latest/greatest gear is buying the very good condition gear they sell at 1/2 or less price.

I like cotton when it is very hot because it gets soaked with my sweat and the wet clothes conducts heat away from my skin.

Some killer deals on rockslide from time to time but most of that gear sells very fast. Just got me a 7.5' tipi style floorless shelter. Real happy with it and what I paid...an older brand that has not been made for maybe 6 years....1/3 the cost of what a new one would be. Very good condition and shelter/pole is 5.5#. It's gonna be nice to be able to stand up inside for a change.....

For cold weather I wear Merino wool underlayer and a 50 year old pair of wool pants, Upper is merino again with a good polarfleece mid layer and wool outer layer. I never bothered with worrying about camo, Killed everything without it, but camo , if the right stuff and price is ok too, just not necessary. YMMV.

You're complaining before you have ever worn it? Good brief. People will complain about everything. Your son in law should keep his code for someone who'll appreciate it next time. My friends and family certainly did.

You're the kind of person who would complain if someone gave you a million dollars in $5s and $10s. "Don't you have any $20s?" I've worn Sitka gear for years, still looks almost like the day I bought it. Sew your own gear up if you think you can do it better.

I love merino wool base layers as well, but outer wool is a night mare most of the places I hunt. Especially if it rains/snows. Most midwestern whitetail hunters would look like a giant ball of cockleburs if they wore wool outer layers.

You don't have cockleburs down there? We have a few up here, not many, but we have tons of the miniature ones we call "beggars lice". They're one of the main reasons I only wear wool pants when I need to be quiet.

When you buy clothes like sitka, KIUI, first lite, etc. you are paying for versatility. Of course there are other types and manufactures of clothing that make dryer, warmer, lighter, more rip proof, better camo pattern, etc., But where they excel in one category they suffer in the other. Sitka and it's competitors are trying to check all the boxes at once. They have done a better job at it than Bass pro, cabela's, and other larger production clothing manufacturers. That is why their prices are what they are. Is it worth it? That is all up to the user and their threshold for value.

I’ll tell ya, if a guy is going to go out on flat ground or in warm weather, dressing warm enough is fine, regardless of the material. When you get into extreme conditions - both terrain and weather, breathable and lightweight is key. This year was my first year using Sitka gear. It made a WORLD of difference. I was the most skeptical one and was also the one who started that last thread. If you’re going into rugged mountains in bad weather or have the potential for bad weather, good gear pays for itself on the first use.
