With hunting season just around the corner I’ve been thinking of trying to turn a few predator calls.
I’m wondering where to get the mouthpiece and reeds from.
Would love to see some of your homemade calls too

They handle a lot of call-making stuff.

She doesn't look like much, but it's been the death of a lot of coyotes, and called tons of deer in with it, also a few cottontail rabbits. It's walnut with a single reed.

Thanks for the replies!
I was wondering what to make the plastics mouthpiece from, I’ll keep a look out for a thick walled plastic pipe.

I have made some great sounding calls and howlers by taking a open reed plastic mouth piece then making a wooden barrel or end piece to fit the call. The wood makes for a nice mellow sound!! I am not a fan of that plastic rattly sound some calls make. it was well worth the time to make them!

Thanks Mark, that’s exactly what I was thinking of doing. I’ve got a couple of Kerry Carvers calls and they’re great, just wanted to make my own. Where did you find the mouth piece?

For my Howler's I used Randy Anderson Primos Lile Dog Howler 350, it comes with two mouth pieces. The white one sounds like a adult coyote and the green one sounds like young coyotes/pups. Carver calls are very good calls. I am just not used to the narrow mouth piece on their Howler. I have tried quite a few calls over the years. These are the one's I use now. Tally Ho, CritR'Call, Verminator, and Sceery game calls. Mostly open reed calls. Hope this helps!

White with black circles was was from a blank I cast with tubes printed on the 3-D printer then white resin was cast around and inside the tube.
[Linked Image]
The red and white one was the same except I cast red into the tubes before I cast white resin around the tubes.

The blue and purple one was an acrylic blank I bought.

Then a birdseye Maple one.

This one was printed on a 3-D printer and all it needs is a reed,it isn't pretty but it works.
All these were turned on my lathe and the toneboards (mouthpiece) were my design and are cast in Alumilte resin in a mold I made. Except the last one that was entirley printed on my 3-D printer

That’s cool, I hadn’t thought of using a 3D printer. Thanks for sharing

Sure does, thanks! Need to use open reed calls up here because the closed reeds freeze up right away.
I really like the carver calls but stupid me lost the lanyard with most of them
