Starts this coming weekend, time to put the camera down and get the shotgun out. Here’s a few pics to get the season started and the blood flowing.

Man that is a beautiful spoonie. I'm assuming those pics are from last season, otherwise your birds have some amazing plumage for this early in the season! Great pics as always

Gotta live up to the nickname...

Most of these pics are from this spring and summer when birds were in breeding plumage. Now everything is fairly drab.

Hey tray
Do you set up a spread in the off season and call them in for pictures ?

you

Yes a lot of time I will try to set up a decoy spread, it’s a little harder then hunting because you need to have the sun behind you for the best pictures of birds coming in but a lot of the time the wind will blow out of a direction that doesn’t for allow for that.

That's pretty cool , I have always wanted to do that just to practice my calling and setting up a good spread to see what works the best. Pictures would be cool too !

I think you would have to travel to Mexico for best chance of shooting a full plumage Blue-wing.

Hey Tray
Do you find there's much a difference between setting up a decoy spread in hunting season vs the spring ? Let's say for mallards?

I don’t do anything special, we have a large number of waterfowl come thru on migration so I just find where they want to be and set up. Big thing is when your not banging away at them once a few birds start landing your decoy spread keeps getting bigger which draws more birds. A good hide is even more critical with a camera then shotgun.
