You can move the decimal point one digit over when I fill up my truck. I'll be trapping song dogs on my property and thats it.

Still in the high 3 dollar range here. Honestly though, even if gas was 2 bucks a gallon, still wouldn't be trapping this season. Yes, I love setting and checking traps but when I get the critters home and the work part begins, I ask myself (4 seasons ago anyway), why the heck am I putting up a 5 dollar Red fox, is it really worth the time and effort. Couldn't help but think NO.

When prices on trapping related needs such as gas and equipment rise so high and fur prices drop so low I just don't add them in I ignore them and keep right on trapping haha I'm guessing thats what a liberal trapper would do so why can't I

Every place I trap is within 7-10 minutes of the house…I’ll trap it at $5 a gallon. 3 coons or possums are a tank of gas. I can't fill my LAWNMOWER with that.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Last car big enough for me to get in and out of was built in the 80's. They didnt get any better fuel mileage than my pickups. I wont do a lot of trapping. Got a freezer full of fur from last year and I didnt trap much. Got the covid then broke my ankle and leg.
I got some beaver pay jobs lined up. Will do some coyotes for free but for old friends. I may skin a few beaver for meat but Im not keeping any plews or pelts. Not going to skin any coyotes.
It flat out torques my jaw that the fur market is in the shape its in 100% because of politicians. Demand is there in China and Russia. Even Europe for some of the better stuff but politics has put the kibosh on it.
Everbody is talking about niche markets and craft markets blah blah blah. The amount of fur we can produce floods those markets instantly. I won't bother. So those of you chasing your tails in that arena won't have me competing with you. I don't live in Alaska where tourist ships and busses can be taken advantage of. Tourists here in KS are bird and deer hunting. They wont pay much for a tanned coyote hide.
Those of you with the skill to make hats arrow quivers and such have my respect. If you can produce and market those items at a profit I am impressed.

How much does a person spend hunting? Geese, deer, elk, etc. yea you get some meat but how much do you spend for the meat. We need to keep the population of the critters down. If you love your hobbies, do it. Yes, I’m trapping this year.
It is more blessed to give than to receive

kevin telling soccer moms you kill animals because you think its fun is why there is so many anti hunting-trapping agendas.
I never paid a trespass fee or hired a guide and i never will. If I cant break even on a hunt i wont go. Can shoot 5 does here for 100 bucks worth of tags in Jan. That is to high of a license fee but 100 pounds minimum of boned out meat, at 5 bucks a pound grocery store price, i come out ahead. i dont go 10 miles to kill them. So "hobby" is not the word for everyone.
