Ole red tail nailed one of the darling wife’s chickens this morning. I think he must have ate too much. He suddenly fell out of a tree. Lol, Cooper hawks do the same thing around here

Somehow the chickens know when there are hawks about to gather around the dogs or stay under the bushes or in the run. A hawk got a hold of a slaw full of tail feathers of one of the chickens but Finnigan convinced him that it was not a good idea he is fast.

I have a friend who has racing pigeons who had some hawks fall out of trees. A neighbor reported it. He went through a lengthy federal process that resulted in a big scare and a $5,000 per hawk restitution payment plus some other costs. He said that he learned a big lesson - that he doesn’t like his neighbor.
Once when pheasant hunting immediately after a rooster hit the ground a red tail swooped down and started tearing it apart. It acted berserk when my 2 labs and I approached, but did not back down. We continued on our hunt.

Pop used to raise fighting chickens and he never had much problem with hawks, but great horned owls killed a great money. He got caught with a pole trap and $500 (1980 dollars) fine convinced him to use other methods of prevention.

During the migrations here it’s nothing to count 5 hawks per mile driving down the roads they are everywhere.

Knowing what we know and seeing what we see, I always marvel at men accepting the guberments insistence that habitat loss is the reason that quail are no longer plentiful.
Where Yes Sir and Flint Hilld Fur live used to me a bobwhite mecca. Probably down around A Eastwood and D Clifton too for that matter.
