It looks like some.kinda foxtai..

I am wondering if it has any nutritional value and of sheep will eat it or if it's just an invasive weed?

All Millets are excellent food sources for wildlife, especially game birds and waterfowl. :-)

Looks like giant foxtail to me. Nasty stuff when it gets mature. It will tangle you up and not let go. If your dog gets into it you better have a good brush.

Stewie is right I believe, it's not something I'm familiar with.

It's pretty difficult to do grass ID with photos alone, and there are a lot of grasses with with flower structures that look like the one you posted. I don't think it's giant foxtail. Millet is a better guess, but it's just too hard to see the necessary features to be sure. Could be several things within Setaria, Cenchrus, Pennisetum, or other related genera. I will say that most species in those groups have fine forage value AND are exotic weeds.

It didn’t look like the proso millet they planted in SD, so I looked it up and there are apparently a lot of different looking millets, it does look like foxtail (pigeon grass) but there are a lot of fox tails also. In other words I have no clue what it is.

Download the "PictureThis" app (I have the free one, there is a fee one that has more bells and whistles that I have no need for but others do I guess)

Take a picture and it will ID weeds, trees, shrubs, etc
Has been spot on the times I used it
