For all their speed, "goats" seldom jump barbed wire fences. They will crawl underneath them, especially in dips of the land where their is more than typical space between the ground and the bottom strand of wire.
Antelope hate woven wire fences because unless there are actual holes in it, they can't get out of that pasture. There have been times in rough winters, at least in western SD, where a herd of goats gets into a woven wire fenced pasture, usually after a blizzard where they can walk over snow drifts, and then can't get out it later on. Bad news if the blizzard is early and the winter is long. Not unusual to find dozens of dead antelope come spring in such a pasture. The great white wolf can still prowl the short-grass prairie of the northern Great Plains any given year.

Definitely not October 2022. But still very awesome video. That was taken between Mule Creek Junction and Edgemont SD. I’m not sure what year but definitely not this year. Yup, a friend sent it to me last winter

They do have a certain smell, I think it sort of smells like sage, that put some people off but that smell doesn't get transferred to the meat unless you really screw things up (like leaving them out in the sun and/or warmth too long). My mother and my wife, neither big wild game eaters, both said that pronghorn tastes better than most deer. Another thing to remember is that pronghorn are smaller than most deer (or at least deer around here). A really big buck might go 120 pounds live weight. Most "goats" will go in the 80 pound range.

Beautiful animals. That snowy prairie looks like tundra. Yeah, 30/06, the tundra and the short-grass prairie look a lot of like from a distance, the short-grass is "warm and dry" and the tundra "cold and dry" if using an annual average temp as a measure. The short-grass doesn't have lichens or moss as part of the land cover.
