grin They can be mean little snots ...mainly because they aren't worked with enough . I worked with a Shetland/POA cross who was just big enough I could ride him. He would buck and rear up every time kids would ride, so I got hold of him for some weeks. He straightened right out with me and I rode the tar out of him in the mountains.

BUT- every time kids would get on him, he would go right back to his snotty behaviour. I would have to stand in the center of the arena pointing and scolding him , he would scowl back at me and begrudgingly behave, but only while I was in sight. What a brat !

That picture is funny but many times true.

My cousins all had Shetland pony’s when I was a kid and every one of them was a snotty brat, you didn’t want to turn your back on any of them for a second or you would get bit and even a pony has big teeth, you also had to watch their feet not just for kicking but they would intentionally step on your foot and then just stand there while you tried to get them off, and I swear they would lean into that foot to put more weight on yours, all that ended when one of them caught my uncle in the hip and sent him into the ground, the next day the whole lot of them were headed to he dog food factory

I guess they should have stayed with the Kool Aid stand! Funny but more real than we may like to see.

Yes, nightlife, Shetlands can be ornery. I think they stand around all day planning what they can do next to irritate us !

LOL, that brings back some memories. When I was a kid I pretty much lived on my aunt and uncle's farm. Among other horses they had a Shetland pony that I was required
to ride. Looking back on it, could be they wanted to be rid of me. That little sob was the meanest horse I ever saw, kicked like a mule and bit like a snapping turtle.
I'm surprised I lived long enough to outgrow him.

My wife is recovering from surgery to reattach the head of her humerus. 7 screws. Got dog piled by her Haflinger filly. She has had horses (8 at one time)) for 58 years. Don't turn your back on them.
