So The Boy kept one of the pups from a litter of feists we had this summer and at 4 months old it was time to take Turbo (High Performance Turbo) to the woods with mom (Southern Belle) and dad (Old Oak Timber). Well we got into the woods surrounded by standing corn release the dogs and they head straight into the corn make a loop and bust into the woods 75 yards ahead without Turbo. Who by the way was without a GPS collar and only had a training collar. About 30 seconds later Timber hit a tree hard and the farmer fires up his combine. Oh man my heart drops. I start calling the pup Turbo without response. Belle and Timber won't leave the tree and I can't locate the pup so I climb up the hill to get a better view of the situation. The farmer luckily for me is on the far side of the field and only runs one load. I assume due to the rain over the weekend the moisture is too high. Anyhow while he is still cutting corn I am trying to figure out what to do as this isn't my dog and The Boy is at school. After about 20 minutes of calling and going up and down different fingers of the hill I see Turbo and he sees me, he runs over to me and can't contain himself with relief, I feel about the same. I took Belle's GPS coller and gave her Turbo's trainer. The rest of the hunt he never again went out of sight lol.

Was a fun afternoon and we scored on that first squirrel Timber still had treed (a black one) and one more before we left.

have you ever tried them on pheasants?

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Pretty nice first hunt for your pup. I remember my cur running off a few times while hunting. I was always worried I might not get him back. He was too stubborn to change his ways.

Hope you, the boy and the pup have many more hunts.

I miss my little fiest, sold him because I didn't have time to hunt. But I'm glad you are getting out there with the dogs and letting them do thier thing! Looks like you have a good group there.

I don't know that breed but seen as he blew right to you when seen you. Good chance might be looking for you more now.
Sounds like you had some fun though and successful first outing.

Nice, Mountain fiest is what everybody uses for squirrel dogs here and in GA or atleast they used to 15 years ago. Great squirrel too!

Yeah I just started hunting with treeing dogs a few years ago and it is a different experience for sure.
My male is just over 2 female is 1 and the pup is 4 months. Male is now fixed and female will be next month, might keep the pup intact if he dosent mark like the older one did. Any how yeah it sure is fun when they fire up on a tree been more than once I thought they were wrong and hit a cold tree but after hitting it with a small bat sure enough a squirrel timbered to the next tree. Amazing how those tree rats can hide in plain sight.
