https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-n...-finance-disclosure-violations-rcna54327

A Washington state judge on Wednesday October 26, 2022 fined Facebook parent company Meta nearly $25 million for repeatedly and intentionally violating campaign finance disclosure law, in what is believed to be the largest campaign finance penalty in U.S. history.

Not seeing much pub on this. What a coincidence with all the facebook layoffs.

What goes around comes around.

How many lies will people believe before they realize their own idiocy?

Pretty sure layoffs dont have any thing to do with the case. Facebook/Meta has the same problem Twitter has. Employee heavy and diminishing ad revenue. At least in facebooks case it actually made a profit. Twitter never has.

Washington’s transparency law requires ad sellers such as Meta to keep and make public the names and addresses of those who buy political ads, the target of such ads, how the ads were paid for and the total number of views of each ad. Ad sellers must provide the information to anyone who asks for it. Television stations and newspapers have complied with the law for decades.

But Meta has repeatedly objected to the requirements, arguing unsuccessfully in court that the law is unconstitutional because it “unduly burdens political speech” and is “virtually impossible to fully comply with.” While Facebook does keep an archive of political ads that run on the platform, the archive does not disclose all the information required under Washington’s law.

Some what technical violations. Seems like the requirements are a bit onerous

Thank you Sir, while over my head it is an issue, I m sure my 2 or 3 post on there weekly isn't a concern.

Yea, I see a few ads, but I am more concerned w Stanz in Ilsmaroda or American Patriot in San Marcus ( giant head boat) so 1
I don't pay attention to the ads
