If we only allowed ox carts and foot traffic on our modern roads they would last centuries too... Not too many 80,000 lb Peterbilts in the time of the caesars.

Way more pounds per sq inch from a foot of a 10,000 lb elephant than from an 80.000 lb 18 wheeler.

The old stone arch bridges that were built in the Mid to late 1800's around here are still being used by the railroads but ones built with steel and concrete much later are falling apart. There's three of them within 4 miles of where I live. All three are railroad bridges . Many trains are around 100 cars long. A lot of trains pass through each day , around 20 if not more.
