I'm new to trapping. My main goal is to get coyotes off my property. I've read everything I could about it. Tried some of the techniques you guys suggest but still can't get any. I've got pictures of the coyotes posing for the camera less than 6 inches from the traps. I boiled and waxed them and am scent conscious. Not sure what to do next. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

What kind of lure are you usng?

Cavens predator bait, chi chi, canine force, Sheep wool, coyote urine and some liver and heart meat from a deer I harvested

Try blind trail sets, no lure to tip them off.

Your on the right track but like Cathryn suggests, stay away and check from a distance. Most times it may take a week or more to make a catch if at all. Good luck!

Can you use snares in Va?

Yes we can. I've never used a snare. Spent my whole life either in the military or working for the military. Now that I'm retired I want to learn a few things before I depart this earth. I'll figure out how to set one and give it a try.

Snares, in my experience, are much more successful.

They don't seem to be afraid of the camera. Been taking pictures of them for 3 years In that spot. Catch a few trespassers there too. I could put in a couple traps back up the trail some. I'll try that. I'll put in a blind set in the middle of the trail.

How confident are you in your bedding? Getting everything down soild is important. If you got that and are on location just let the set work and don't tinker it to death with constant touch ups. Just back off and wait.

I have 2 traps set at this location. I'm confident that they are bedded pretty solid. I made sure that nothing moved at all. One has the bait in a hole directly under the pan. I read about doing that on this site. The other one is a standard dirt hole set.

I'd offset the trap a bit > never seen even a female coyote that walks in a single line. Find a spot where the trail narrows and place small stepping sticks to guide a foot onto the trap.
