Has anyone ever found a trap while trapping? I was wondering this while on the way out to my line the other day. I have only found 1 trap before and that was while I was prairie dog hunting, this trap is why my dad thinks I got hooked on trapping. We had stopped for a minute to reload mags and stuff and there was this little bit of green plastic sticking out of the ground. So we went and pulled it up and it was a tent stake with a #2 or #3 old coyote trap on it. I loved having that trap and I think that's part of the reason why I got hooked on trapping. I ended up losing that trap a couple of years later when a guy ran his bales through his grinder without warning when he said it wasn't going to happen for a few months. So to raise the question. Has anyone found a trap while out trapping or just randomly somewhere? Hanging up in a tree, in an old set, where you were putting a new set? I have always dreamed of kicking up a old muskrat float ones of these days with all of the sloughs I trap.

I have found traps from previous seasons a couple of times and returned them to the name on the tags.

A couple times. The most memorable is hopefully still there. Rolling farm country with smaller pieces of brushy timber mixed in. Out behind an old farm site there are a few big cottonwoods a couple hundred yards away. There is an old #2 size double coil attached to a heavy duty chain that is growing out of one of the trees amongst the cottonwoods. Would guess it’s been there at least 60 years. It’s just a part of the place and needs to stay.

Caught another in a 330 that had a long spring on one foot. Does that count.

I have found my snares with my tag on them set on my line that I didn’t set, that were stolen a couple of weeks before.

I see traps and snairs almost every year in wy public land if there on a location I want to set I'll set the location only if it's obvious they have been abandoned. There not mine so I leave them

A guy probably set that a long time ago thinking it would be a good coon set and then he just forgot one day. That would be a fun ride through the chainsaw.

Yes, surprising that a beaver can still swim well with a long spring on one foot.

Have you ever found any old cabins from the homestead up that way?

I found a muskrat float set hanging in the branches of a tree over the creek. I'm sure it was washed up there during a flood. There were two rusty victor long springs on the float platform and clamped in one of the traps are two leg bones - I suppose of a muskrat leg.

I have the two traps hanging in my barn - with the bones still clamped in the one.

I still have and use the float platform.

It's not uncommon to run across old collapsed line cabins.
Sometimes they're just an outline in the moss.
