Matt Rhule, can he turn the Cornhusker football program around? He turned around programs at Temple and Baylor, but failed in the NFL.
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.

I doubt it. What made Nebraska great years ago no longer exists in this country.

Yeah he sure showed his capabilities with the Panthers very glad to see him gone Besides coddling their egos, what is a coach to do with a bunch of grown, spoiled, men with no respect for anyone? Not all, but most pro athletes fall into this category. The days of respect for one’s coach have unfortunately passed in most places…

What I remember about Nebraska from back in the day was they dressed over 100 players for a home game and 80% of those were from Nebraska and had a whole lot of walk-ons. They recruited their skill players (RB, WR, QBs, etc) from all over, but team's core was from NE. An offensive lineman might not start till his 5th year. If he went down, the next guy on the depth chart came in and they didn't miss a lick.
They had a playbook that must have been over a foot deep and every player on the roster knew every play. When they needed a critical play, they pulled crap that nobody had ever seen. Folks in MO still remember losing that game to the boom-a-rooskie fake punt touchdown.....the guy scoring the touchdown was 30 yards downfield before anybody knew he had the ball.
Kids then wanted to play for NE. Could have gotten scholarships to play elsewhere but paid to walk on to play at NE. They may no longer have that. They may be like the rest of us. There were 6 kids who played high school football in MO drafted into the NFL last year. None of them played for Missouri. They all went somewhere else.

I think all colleges have the athletes...just have to get them to play together as a team instead of dividing themselves racially and hollering racism. I know NE has had that problem in the past but nobody can stop it and now it is just gaining momentum. Heck even Jake from State Farm has been replaced because he's white.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Maybe if Nebraska moved back to the Big 12 and could keep the other teams from scoring 40 points a game.

When Nebraska was great the current crop of football recruits were not yet born. Elite players/recruits want to go play for the big name schools that vie for the national championship every year. In other words, they want to play for an SEC team.
Nebraska could become a good 7-8 win team every year but that will never meet the fans unreasonable expectations so coaches and their staffs are on a shorter leash than many other places.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

The fact that the players and front offices control the $ does not mean they respect the coach. The fact that they are the first to get shown the door after poor performances illustrates this. Even the worst pro football team is made up of the top .01%. Pro’s have learned all they can by the time an NFL coach has them. From there on it is up to players to do what needs to be done. Some teams are better at this than others. This is how I have always viewed pro sports. I’m probably wrong though.
