I have too many black cherry trees that have suckers coming out of them at the base. I think now after season it's going to be a good time of year to go in and cull some out to try to encourage the oaks to thrive. The Cherry don't seem to grow well on my property and are almost more like brush, but they don't seem to benefit deer much, and none seem to be the type that will produce timber. I suppose if I just cut them off they'll resprout and grow back like a bush

I have a bunch of cherry I milled but it doesn't have that "POP" when it's finished, what do you finish Cherry with to get it to "POP" with that beautiful cherry color?

Do you slab everything? I think you can cut in different ways to get better lumber.

My favorite firewood tree, the smell of it burning on a frosty day is just heavenly! reminds me of Cherry blend pipe tobacco.

Anything you build from cherry just gets darker with age. I built two staircases and kitchen cabinets from local cherry, and left some sapwood to give it some appeal. Turned out very nicely. My sister has kitchen cabinets from commercial wood, and it is now so dark, you cannot see the grain in it anywhere. Sanding it is like a dose of hay fever for me. I doubt I’ll ever work with it much again because of the reaction I get from it.
