Tax returns???? How can it be = Tax return if you all ways have to pay ???? LOL!! marketing , if you market the idea of employer withholding and getting money back then it encourages people to do their taxes and also over contribute and the gov gets to use that money until the check is cashed. you would be more correct to say Filing tax audit for the year. but that sounds like the dreaded Audit used in fear marketing that you don't want to take any chances on under paying thus you be audited and found to owe much more.

Some people purposely have too much withheld, just to get a refund. Go figure. Others get a loan advanced on their refund so they can get it faster. They are overpaying in advance, then paying someone fees and interest to get their own money back. Dumb and dumber right there.
if people were smart with money , understood saving and investing half of banking products wouldn't exist. it is an industry that preys on telling people they can have it right now and borrow borrow borrow , and sells debt as and asset

I fall in the dumb and dumber crowd I guess, although I don’t purposely have my company withhold extra. I do get a nice check every tax season and it goes in a drawer until a certain amount is reached, then invested. If I got it in my regular check it would probably be spent, but a larger lump sum gets saved. Bad on my part I guess. But with that said, I do have a years salary (gross) in cash for the “oh crap” moments. I also have another year or two salary saved in the bank if it’s a really bad “oh crap” moment. And I still have my retirement and 401K for when I retire. My kids don’t understand why I still drive a 2000 model truck either, lol. Large checks makes me save vs it coming on a biweekly paycheck. Dumb and dumber I guess.

I fall in the dumb and dummer category as well. At my hourly rate for my work, it is cheaper for me to work my day job and hand the paperwork over to a person that knows what they are doing and pay them their rate. I'll still end up with more in my pocket doing it that way. I did not meat for this to turn into a serious thread though. Lighten up a little folks. Life is serious enough on a daily basis.

If you wait too long your kids will get a Power of Attorney on you, shove you in a cheap nursing home where they feed you meatballs with a slingshot, and then spend all your savings.

In the nursing home she went kicking and screaming. Took two years. I'm a good son. Funny, mom called me bad names. BTW This reminds me, I got to do mom's taxes now too. Luckily, assisted care is a medical deduction for her. Mom's tax liability just went down. You are welcome ma!

Tax returns???? How can it be = Tax return if you all ways have to pay ???? LOL!! Big brother rigs the numbers to scare people who don’t actually dig into it into paying more than they owe so that they can use our money interest free for a year, with the hopes that you’ll overlook deductions and they can just keep it. Why do you think taxes are so complicated? If they were simple it wouldn’t be easy to manipulate common folk into paying more than they really should be. I am married with 5 children, and just starting out in a new career I don’t make squat, I work for the state so I don’t pay into social insecurity, so my income tax burden is pretty low. When I was making a lot of money though, tax time sure sucked. But don’t worry, even though my income doesn’t really get taxed much, they still find ways to squeeze me 7 ways from Sunday. Heck it’s almost $1k a year to register my two vehicles. But the ticket for having expired plates is $136 lol. Cheaper to just not register them if you only get pulled over a couple times.
