There is a lure thickener that is made from Pine Tar. I'm sure some suppliers have it.

Add a little molasses. It adds to the attraction of your castor lure as well.

My guess is molasses will wash away pretty fast in a rainstorm.

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

No they don't, but I think this is the stuff. I would call them before ordering too much of it. I used to buy it by the gallon from them and add it to shellfish oil and salmon oil, it really helped keep the smells at water sets much better than other things that just cut the shellfish and salmon oil. Back in the day, a lot of lure manufacturers were cutting shellfish oil with vegetable oil to increase profits but it sure lowered the quality. I suppose they probably still do.

They have a lot of other thickener type products as well.

If you want sticky Boco is right on with molasses, plus it is easy for all trappers to obtain.

Although I've never used it. I was reading the archives where Asa Lenon used gum acacia as a thickener. I'm not sure how sticky it is.

Molasses is a key ingredient in some old beaver lures that I happen to know work very well.

Boco turned me onto the idea of adding molasses to castor based beaver lure several years ago. It works great.
