I caught an otter this morning and I'm kind of in a bind. I have no otter stretchers. Can I skin and freeze hide out and also how dry should the fur be when I freeze I had seen quite a few posts about singing hair. And tips or tricks would be appreciated

I used a raccoon stretcher, it will work good. I was the same as you last year, but this year with the otter I caught I just fleshed and boarded him on a normal raccoon board. You can do it man!

Use a bobcat board

Matt I'm in south la I'm more worried about the temp this week for drying it's supposed to get hot around 80 I believe and I don't have a/c where I dry. The plan was to freeze it fur out until I get a big enough board and the weather cools down. Did you freeze the skins last year?

Ok, yeah your skin will dry in the heat. If you put a fan on them, and in the sun, it will dry really fast. I did freeze my otter from last year, but only because I was in absolute fear of messing them up. I skinned, fleshed, boarded and already took the otter I caught 2 days ago off my board. When it's 60 degrees with our high humidity is when no matter a fan or not, the fur will never dry. I'm in SW LA. Do you have a fan to put on them?

I don't right now I'm just getting set up for fur handling but I'll put it on the list lol also learned the hard way a dog will go through a screen door for a drying nutria. What's the hottest you will dry fur in or is the fan the the trick to drying in any heat

The fan is the trick always, it just makes it better. Oh definitely right at 90 easy, I dont have AC in my fur shed either. Just fans. Basically as long as you get it dry, it will be ok. If you have a blow dryer or leaf blower, for nutria, beaver, otter and if you are lucky enough muskrat. I always blow dry them for like 5 minutes just to get most of the water out.

If you have no fan, and just the heat, I would board it and hang the board. The breeze will act as a slow wind even if you cant feel it.

Fox boards and even measurements are similar to that of an otter. I used a fox board for the otter I caught

Use a cat board as a coon board is usually to wide and short.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Cat board is very close to otter board-fox board is too narrow.
