Canadians, per se, were really not players. Britain finally decided it wanted peace and signed the treaty of Ghent to stop fighting. Afterwards, under a banner of peace Britain again attacked the US, but was badly beaten. I guess I can see why he's so proud of Canada's role in the 1812 war.
