Not sure if the link will work so here it is.

Blowing off steam.

Any other business pros experience this?

Wife's coworker texts her looking for "free diy advice" since your husband does....
If this is you please stop. My missus is getting sick and tired of my reaction.

Even worse is when the coworker asks how to do something illegal, stupid or dangerous.
Again, if this is you please stop. My missus is getting sick and tired of my reaction.

Better yet, call me direct. You might not like what you'll hear, of course you don't want to pay to have it done the right way but if you want the unvarnished truth and maybe even free advice you'll at least hear it straight from the source what 20 years of hands on experience has taught me.
And you might be pleasantly surprised that I truly like helping people if they'll just be up front with me.

I can understand since that is your business. I don’t mind helping folks. But I’m not giving up my know how on places I trap.
Taught a guy and he’s having fun with it and making a little money live selling. Well word got around and now he’s got “friends” everywhere that want him to come trap. He called and said, you was right. I asked about what and he said everyone wants me to trap, but no one wants to pay. He said he’d just stick to his property and keep the predators at bay, lol.

Same here. Fortunately I don’t trap as a business but folks ask me to come trap their properties. The one I love to hear is “you can keep the pelts.” Like it’s truly a big form of pay. I just laugh and tell them the pelts are worthless. No market for southern fur. I do utility pipe work for a living. Most people have absolutely no clue the real cost of heavy equipment work. Ive given so many quotes to homeowners and have them look at me like I just took a dump on their porch.

Try being an electrician.

No, I won't climb into your attic in August for free.

I'm sure all of the trades get it. Heck, most of the gals in the family are nurses and they get asked medical advice all the time.

I owned an auto repair shop back in the 70's and 80's. I would have people ask me if the problem with their car was difficult to repair, and could they do it themselves. I never did come up with decent come back. I would often ask them what they did for a living, and if they thought I could do it. I'd usually tell them to give it a shot, but it would probably cost more for me to fix it once they had given up. Most would leave the car for us to fix.

That is why I LOVE working underground in a Coal Mine. I have my shot Blast certification and can legally handle set and Discharge explosives and have had people ask me to Blast Stumps or Rocks in Pastures but when I quote them the price they never call back. They do not understand the Federal and State forms required to blast and do not understand that ANY explosive set off can and WILL BE IMMEDIATELY traced back to the exact stick that went off and where it came from and all they have to do is take the seismic reading and know EXACTLY where it went off.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

With me I usually just deal with the people who have between 3-15 thousand acres of farm ground . I don't get paid but I have a free run on 25 thousand acres and I mean hunt , fish ,and trap like I own it all starts right out my front door to me that is a good deal ... Jon

I am guilty of asking my mechanic to diagnose a problem (if I can't figure it out) and if I am capable of doing the repair myself electing to do the work.

But I pay for a diagnosis wink

I honestly think my mechanic is good with me fixing my own stuff as he stays busy enough and he appreciates the fact someone is making an effort to do some manual labor.

Guess I am not asking for free advice or work though

That's being up front, I respect that. I've given plenty of trapping advice over the years to those who are honest enough with me. I figure the guy ain't paying but is going to do something about his critter problem right or wrong. I'd prefer he do it right rather than screw up with a trap and give us all a bad name. Heck, and if we're lucky we gain a new trapper.

ABSOFREAKINLUTELY!!!! I was an electrician for 23 years. Last 5 was self employed. I had all kinds of “friends” wanting me to do work at discounted prices. The attic thing was the WORST!! I always told them, “Look, if ya don’t like me, just tell me. Ya don’t have to ask me to go up in the attic where it’s 120 degrees.”

They got the point.

Why do I carry 10mm? Because shooting twice is just silly.
