Shouldn’t even be a thing. Make the buyers buy at the sale or wait for the next sale. It’s not rocket science. Private treaty is for the buyers not the trappers.

It’s big time shady. People will disagree with me, especially fur buyers.
It’s a good way for them to wait things out, see how the fur is selling, then walk in after the sale and buy the fur in the back room.
These fur buyers are all buddies with these auction guys. Put them in a back room together to make a deal is a joke.

They aren’t fighting over it because they have a back door to walk in after the sale and buy things leisurely.
Auctions are designed to make people buy things now or forever hold your peace . Impulse buying. People don’t even understand what an auction is anymore. This isn’t Sobey’s where you can browse and hem and haw.
People aren’t spanking anymore and it really shows!

No,when demand outstrips supply the buyers who want fur bid it up in the auction room. Like I said PT sales move fur that is not in so much demand.

Everybody knows what would happen-Be a bunch of unsold fur costing everyone money to store for nothing. An get even less later when it gets stale. If you dont want your raw fur sold at current market value, keep it in your freezer at home until the market comes back and see how that works out for you. Or try to play catch up later when demand spikes. Or do like some and sell into an alternative to the raw fur market.

No,not alway, sometimes fur not being bid up on the floor for whatever reason.(Oversupply etc). probably mink coon and coyote sold PT in this current market-good skins too, just not much demand if you listened to the auction. The job of the auction house is to sell fur for the trappers for the best price the market will support for bulk raw fur. not store it. In the past I have bought certain skins PT from the Auction house for my own use.Good skins not available in my section. Junk fur shouldnt be sent to the auction house in the furst place-it hurts the whole industry. They do a great job moving that crap for whatever they can get in my opinion. Some of it should be shovelled into the incinerator. Also my opinion.

Definitely agree it’s not the job of the auction company to store fur but sell it. In this market that would be a tough call on some items. That said it’s hard to believe that coon prices were so much lower than the only country buyer actively buying coon. I mean top lot was lower than the top pile price they were paying. I doubt I could get myself to ship coon there again.

Private treaty is just a very shady way for FHA to make all their money with packing, shipping, tumbling fees, and buyer & trapper commissions.
FHA can make their money up front while screwing the trapper at the same time.
Mark Downey always gets payed his cut with private treaty but the trapper, not so much.
If it costs money to hold over fur until the buyers have to pay reasonably for it, so be it.
That's the price Downey & FHA should also have to pay in order to earn their commissions & fees.
All business is at some risk, and if the trapper has to risk financial loss then FHA must also have to take some loss of commissions & fees as well.
Private treaty is a license to steal.
