Making a basic dirt hole, with wax paper as a pan cover.

Select a good location.

Dig a hole and trap bed.

Stake, and place trap, and bed solid.

Insert wax paper over pan, and sift some dirt.

Sift more dirt over bed area and locate trap pan.

After that, sift more dirt and create "bowl effect", then add favorite bait and a shot of urine.

Check set the next morning and collect a fox.

Perfect off topic thread. I believe we could use more like this one.
I saw this method of "mudding up a trap" in one of CJ's earlier post and tried it this year. It works like a charm and takes less time that the old way I was using.
Great post CJ, we could use more like this.

A "half truth" is still a whole lie.

I saw in charles dobbin's video about dirt holes, he said don't use urine with bait, because that usually means if a fox pee'd there, he was marking his territory, after he recovered his food, and that he wouldn't mark his territory if food was there, it would just show others where the food was. but from your pic it works....did I understand this wrong? seems like if a fox pee'd there, others might just sniff it and walk on buy instead of working the bait. I use lure and bait together, but not urine and bait...hmmmmm any thoughts?

I survived the death clutch of Boss Hog, and am now here for my 3rd tour of duty on Tman

Trophyhunter, sorry, I don't watch videos. I did see hundreds of reds hanging in a guys shop one day, which got me wanting to trap fox. This was about 20 years ago. He said he always used unrine at his sets. So, I guess I just stuck with it.

Besides, don't alot of folks mix urine in with bait/lures?

Anyway, the whole point of this thread was just to show some "basic sets" for the new trapper out there, viewing this forum, and is too afraid to ask questions or post, that's all.
