UAW just turned down a 21% pay increase

They say record profits deserve record pay

Does this mean when the company has record loses they will also share those losses?

At least the product produced by a construction worker / Tradesman when delivered to customer end user often increases in monetary value. UAW produced products almost always decrease in value rapidly, often drastically within minutes of title tranfer.

Construction workers building a home, building, bridge, pipeline ect....Those things generally increase in value. Automobiles, trucks, heavy trucks, ect that UAW workers produce drop in value drastically the very moment after purchase.

I think where people get confused is construction worker is a broad term . Shovel dragger or master carpenter , concrete finisher , heavy equipment operators all fall under the broad term .
Iíll clarify above so that means a automobile built by Hyundai ( just an example) goes up in value after purchase because it was built non union or my wifeís Chevrolet Avalanche that was built in Mexico it also lost ten percent the minute it left the lot .

What does a companies profit have to do with wage? Nothing. They chose the wage when they signed on. It was good enough then.

Most labor jobs can be found with a strong back and a weak mind. The smart one gets to the top of the food chain and gets the money. You don't have to be a genius for most jobs and those jobs should pay accordingly.

It would be interesting to compare hr worked, retirement, health care cost and coverage and ytd earnings between the non union bashers vs myself and jastat's. I'm not a betting man but I would bet Jastat and I have better investments, healt coverage at better pricing and have made more money. It's easy to see why the have not don't like the haves. Like you said those smart ones figure out how to get some of the pie. The rest wine and cry.

Funny no one wants to discuss why companies started offering pensions, health insurance, paid vacations and yearly raises. They did so to keep and retain employees that make Them money. The more you do things the better and and more productivity you have. They didn't have to retrain and people took pride in their job and where they were employed. Many hear seem to think like the modern corporate people are a # and any body in the spot will do. Funny how high turn over is, lack of pride in the work place and no loyalty to the company these days. Management come in new maks cuts to everything, preventive matanance on the lines and on the structure housing the lines. They cook the boos pad number get the big bonuses then move to a different company before thing fall apart.
When my plant is making 96 million a year profit and deo geting a 5 million bonus on top of his high salary. I definitely take offense whan they want to increase my health insurance coverage cost and reduce what it covers. Yes I get hot under toe collar when they try to remove the 30 and out after guys planing on retiring earlier than 62 when they are at 29 years in. Corporate greed at ts finest.

When you have good employees you treat them well and their families are healthy and happy That buys you happy employees that have loyalty and more productivity across the work place. That is lost on a lot of you.

Also business future all their cost and know what they project to make . They know when they signed contracts they will and still be profitable or they would not sign them.

Maybe the auto workers just want to buy a car/ truck they build or groceries and want wages to match the times Like you would do if you didn't have a job where you was told to work more hours or go somewhere else Thats your crummy reasoning I don't have it so no one else should get it either
Think up any excuses you like reminds me of vietnam Nobody spit on the government

I was a union member and a non-union employee with the same company for 40 years. I'm not for or against unions and think at times we would have done better not being union than having the union. I was in a career that needed very skilled work force with continuing education and to be able to do the job.

With highly skilled people I'm not so sure a union helped them much because they needed those skills and people committed to further education to be able to be sustainable in the industry.

When in management the rules the union laid down actually hurt the employees more than it helped. I seen that those very things when I was in the union.

If both sides could come together at a round table each and talk over and negotiate things would have been a better outcome.
