How many buy their meat at Aldi? How's the quality? We had one open up here and was curious how it compares to other chains.

My lady friend loves it so when we have a trip into the city it makes her day to stop by one. The salmon, pork ribs, fresh salsa is way better than average.

Their pork is great! We also buy chicken thighs and legs there and have been very satisfied. Their bratwurst is better than most name brands.

Hard to go wrong with Aldis.

Aldi badly beats Kroger and Walmart on quality and price. We had security accounts with Aldi for years. The generic products they sold came in with the names of all the same major companies on their attached packing slips, such as Dole and Tyson, that their competitors sell as name brands.

About a month ago, they opened up a little bit closer Aldi, to us, in Urbana, Ohio. We are very glad they did.

I really like their certified angus, sirloins end cuts, which cost $5.99 to $6.99 a pound here. They have excellent flavor when done on the grill.

Their seafood is very good too. We just had mussels from Aldi for supper tonight.

Their ginger beer, which is nonalcoholic, is excellent. Their wine and hard cider is very good and incredible for the price. They have won international competitions with their wine.

I frequently purchase Atlantic salmon there. Also sandwich meat. Rarely chicken, pork, or beef. Usually buy a few turkey on sale at Thanksgiving.

Wife and I have been making a point of buying and grilling a slab of Atlantic Salmon every week. I grill it either on a cedar plank or right on the grill with a few chunks of Hickory to add smoke. Salmon, fried homegrown potatoes, and a couple cold brews makes for good livin'.

We honestly do most of our shopping at Aldis. Recently discovered their packaged, thin-sliced Genoa Salami. Great stuff and just as good as from a high-priced deli.

Another nice thing about Aldi is that a very high percentage of their store managers and upper management are veterans. Their employees are paid very well too.

All the stores we had contracts with had veterans as managers.

My buddy’s dad is a retired meat inspector. Said the only meat he will eat is from an animal he raised himself or Aldi. I love that place.

Take your own bag if you go to Aldi. Or buy them there.
They don't have bags.

Not directly related to food at Aldi's but I really like their shopping cart system. You have to pay .$0.25 to use a cart but you can get it back when you are done with it. Yeah, it's a little hassle but it is one of the things that contributes to their ability to offer low prices.

Might sound strange but I really have fun with it during Christmas. Instead of getting my $0.25 back I sometimes offer the "pre-paid" cart to somebody who is just walking in to the store and say "Merry Christmas". Amazing the smiles it brings to other folks' faces. I always figure that maybe, just maybe they will pass it on to someone else. Well worth a quarter to me.

With human nature being what it is, I've found carts left in the parking lot with the quarter left in it. Too lazy to take it back to the corral.

Most people at ours just take it back and leave the quarter and all for the next person and there’s never a cart left in the lot

At the store in South Asheville, it is rare to need a quarter for your cart. We all just pass out cart to someone else and they do the same.

Always thought that a den of cub scouts could offer to push carts to cars and unload groceries in exchange for keeping the quarters. Simple fun raiser for Cubs.

I tried once and short of just starting an all out fist flying fight with that stupid quarter thing on the cart I gave up and just let it sit there for the next fella. They gonna have to make the deposit like 10 bucks or more for me to feel like testing my intelligence on that cart set up.

A quarter wouldn't interest Scouts today....they were set up outside IGA Saturday so I felt obligated to support them. $25 for a box of 12 packets of microwave popcorn.

Yup, Susan had me stop and grab her "a few things" (read a YUGE list) and I didn't have any of her reusable bags. I got a couple of funny looks because I ended up packing it out in a Gander Mt duffle bag, a frame pack, and a gear bag that said Barstow Rodeo Gear in it LOL

Aldi's is great! Keep a couple of Quarters handy in your vehicle for cart ransom, LOL, you get it back when you put the cart back. Outstanding return policy. Everything is top quality. You have to buy bags, bring your own, or collect boxes as you shop.

Had some steaks from there last week and were probably some of the best I’ve had anywhere in a while.

I have bought our Easter hams there for a couple of years now and you can't beat their price. I go once a week, I go to a city 25 miles away once a week and make it a point to shop there. Their house brand Burman is just as good as the big name brands and probably made by them. Their dairy products are cheaper than elsewhere as is their baking supplies. I always see several Mennonite ladys shopping there so that tells me something. And their Happy Harvest canned goods are as good as any. If you can't tell, I'm a big fan of Aldi's. I'll be shopping in one this afternoon.

Aldi is the only thing we all seem to agree on. It's a great store.

I personally prefer Lidl. I can get my German bread and rolls there, as well, as my German egg noodles.

I like Aldis, but quit buying their salmon because it was raised in China. I saw a documentary some time ago, where they had chicken cages suspended above their salmon tanks. Guess what the salmon were anticipating for a meal? I try not to buy anything with Chinese origins.

Aldi's current farm raised, fresh salmon comes from Norway, Russia, Scotland and Chile, not China. China didn't start raising salmon until last year and Aldi doesn't buy it from them.

Aldi may have carried frozen or canned American salmon that was processed in Chinese ships.

I seek out expired "yellow tag" steaks. They're discounted and just getting aged properly. So what if they're discolored.

A lot of their meat is sold vacuum packed,so I can just peel off the labels and put into my sous vide cooker.
Their string cheese is the equal of any that I have tried.
The frozen cream cheese jalapeño poppers and two packs of various cheese cake slices are also among our favorites.

x2
I love finding a store that has marked steaks down to half price once they finally have greyed out and started a blue tinge on the fat. It looks about like ink and its perfectly safe and delicious!

The Dillon's grocery stores in Kansas used to do that a lot and I'd fill a cart up.

The small town grocers have very little good cuts of steak on the shelf. Nobody can afford it and some buy beef from ranchers.

I'm more surprised at how many of you guys buy food from the grocery store like that ...in my mind I thought most trappers an outdoors man fend for themselves ...from our local butcher you can get beef pork an chicken in a package deal heck you can point to the one ya want an he will go out in the pen an kill it right there ya got a garden an some canning jars... wild game fish berries mushrooms whatever else ya need in the woods I would never feed that store bought food to my kid no way
