I kicked a rabbit up that was hiding in the rocks while I was out lure hunting and a Red Tail swooped down for the kill but ended up getting tangled in a towel. I slowly walked up on it and it was very patient and not aggressive at all. It stood there for awhile recovering and then flew to the post to watch me.

I have a red tailed hawk that come and perches in a large ash tree in my front yard. It is there often and has been coming around for the last two years. I have watched him twice take a bird down from that perch. I always love to hear them when I'm in the outdoors. There sounds remind me of the old western movies when they use the sounds for movies.

I’ve noticed a decline in raptor numbers with this bird flu coming though here year after year they are finally getting some reduction in numbers the bald Eagle numbers are about half of what we had in past years.

That's what has been surprising about the raptors I've gotten calls for. They are surprisingly calm critters. I'm always nervous about the talons and afraid of getting nipped by the beak while getting control of the feet. But none have ever freaked out and tried.

Several red tails, a couple barred owls out of chimneys, a sharp shinned out of an upper floor of the Georgia Pacific bldg in Atlanta and the most beautiful bird I've ever held a barn owl out of an office building. Only black vultures have ever resisted.

When there numbers get excessive they are very hard on the smaller bird species like quail and pheasants along with rabbits. Thanks to bird flu I've seen way more of those species this year.
