Since 1888... records of " ice in " and "ice out " have been kept on New Hampshires Lake Winnipesaukee.

And yesterday on St Paddy's Day ...the earliest " Ice Out " evah...was recorded.

Beating the old record by one day.

That lake usually has ice out April 17-20.

That means an early jump on Salmon fishing...as that opens up here April 1 st.

Very mild winter. This year is the first time in a decade I could drive to my cabin in mid March. Most years it the first of May.

The old record was March 18 2016 ice out.

Yesterday's ice out beat it by 1 day.

The latest ice out ..was May 12 1888

After all the nice warm weather we have had over the past couple of months, I see reality in the forecast. 3-6" of snow Thursday and another 12-18" possible next week. Weeehoooo!

I would guess "ice in" was the date there was no open water but is "ice out" the first sign of open water or no ice?

Yep the lake here went out on the 16th. Beating the record that stood for 131 years by 7 days.i lost the pool at work.

Ice out here is when Herbie sinks.(herbie is an old yellow beetle that gets towed out on the lake every spring).

Ice out ..on Lake Winnipesaukee...is when the Mount Washington cruise ship ..can dock at all 5 of its stops.

And just the opposite for ice in..on the lake

I wouldn't talk too much , I've see a lot of pictures of Americans in Michigan and MN that have entire rows of cars and trucks breaking thru the ice about this time of year.

Actually the nice part is I can have 6-7 brush fires that can be viewed from Space ! I believe 3” constitutes snow cover.

I think it is 4 inches of snow but honestly don't remember. I am skipping burning my brush piles this year. The risk of rekindle just isn't worth it.
