HA! If you want to see what happens when your Walmart specials hook up with a real game fish? Just cut that lady fish into about an inch and a half behind her eye and hook her through the lips with a 0/8 or 10 Then pitch it up close to the bank in about three or 4 feet of water that art to do it.when the line starts peeling off you’re real just hold on a minute and then start reeling as fast as you can and see what happens.

Are they any good eating? Only if you're a fish. Both are good bait, but that's it. Ladyfish have the slime and smell of shad. I suppose both are edible, but you'd have to be real hungry.

Wolfie - First off, I'm not a cop of any kind, don't pretend to be one and don't care one bit because you ain't cramping my style. But a question - With your boat travel and fishing, do you buy fishing licenses when you hit other states or just kinda wing it?
If you don't care, as you have stated, why are you asking? Oh wait. I've been to Midland. The sign at the city limit reads, "Welcome to Midland, hope you brought something to do." lol

Didn't know if in that industry there's an unwritten rule kind of deal or it's such a passing/short time visit wardens don't even bat an eye. Or maybe he gets licenses for the states he's in regularly. Many of my buddies that fish the great lakes get licenses for Wisconsin or Canada every year and bounce around.

While fishing in FL, I caught a fish that looked like the second one. I was told it was a pompano. It was very fishy tasting. I would never eat another one. We also caught some grouper that day which were excellent eating.

Ladyfish is related to tarpon and behave much like one. Aggressive biters and clear water well when hooked. Lots of fun but bad to throw a hook on thar initial jump. The mini tarpon thing is the first thing I thought lol ! Yeah they love jumping and are insanely fun and beautiful under the dock lights

I don't see why not. I got the shad smell immediately from the lady fish but though they would be good scaled brined and smoked a lil like a herring maybe And not sure why the jacks wouldn't be good some way filleted out

We also caught some grouper that day which were excellent eating. They’re easily confused for each other until one gets more familiar with them. If it was fishy tasting, it was a jack.
