Took a little fishing trip down to Bond Swamp NWR just south of Macon. Interesting place that one, upland swamp just at the beginning of the coastal plain with a mix of flora and fauna.

Anyway the brood whatever cicadas were out in full force. Their roar drowned out the usual annual ones. You had to listen hard to pick up their higher pitched drone in the background. But I came across an interesting sight.



This American Holly was slap full of shed skins. I noticed a couple differences as well. They were slimmer and about a third smaller than our usual annuals and another difference aside from the sheer numbers was location. Annuals crawl up and shed on the main trunk, these periodicals crawled all the way up and out to the very ends of the branches.

Oh and they sheds were much more delicate as well.

That batch is not supposed to effect Ohio this year. There's dozens of news videos encouraging people to eat cicadas. There's people complaining about people eating them too. I have no desire to eat cicadas.

And a first for me. Caught a couple golden shiners on crickets. Back when I was running lines for catfish those would've gone in the livewell, lol.
