Comes with the territory. I've been pretty lucky, so far. Being poor means doctors don't have much need for me. I have no advice to offer but good luck.
Since you're in NE Iowa, are you going to Rochester?

Modern medicine is pretty amazing Coonman-especially if you dont let it go and they find stuff early-a lot is cureable. Lots of treatment for chronic stuff too,and a lot of surgeries to replace wore out joints and plugged arteries is routine mtc nowadays. Hang in there coonman and trust your doctors advice.

Since last June I don't think a single week has gone by that I did not have some sort of a doctors appointment. It seems I have an appointment or two every week. I have managed to stay away from being in the hospital and ER since early January. The appointments seem endless, I even had a Visiting Nurse 3 times a week for 6 or 7 weeks, I am thankful that is over. I had to cancel an appointment next week so I could attend the Pennsylvania Trapper's Rendezvous. I am thankful I am still above ground so I guess it is worth it.
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.

In the past 5 years I've been to the ER about 10 times, had 2 surgeries (Gall bladder out and lung collapse). Diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus too. A lot of my family died of cancer so I imagine one day I'll get it somewhere in me. I try not to think about it because unless they catch it real early you're basically screwed. Regular screening is the key. I get a once a year CT scan of my lungs (I quit smoking 28 years ago but now have COPD. Getting old sucks.

Been to the doctor more times since the year started than in the 10 previous years I think. Not to complain as I have already lived longer than 90% or more of the males in my family tree. Right now my biggest Demon is Vertigo. No answers for it yet and many therapy sessions. I'm seeking relief daily. Keep on kicking Coonman220. My goal is to be still kicking when they try to put me under. At 70 and beyond I truly believe the saying. Use it or Lose it. Sometimes it's not easy but don't just give it away. Best of luck on your continuing health !

With my bladder cancer, the only symptom I had was blood in my urine. Cystoscopy is not fun. Not painful but is uncomfortable. Good thing is they don't last very long. Good luck Dave. Hope no cancer, u think u be sick, have not seen blood in urine, but blood spots in morning on clothes an only place it could be come from. They say use numbing jel with scope, not look forward to it or results

Make sure the techs clean the scoping equipment between your colonoscopy & your upper endoscopy or the procedure will leave a bad taste in your mouth !!!

Dave, I think it's fairly common for people to have some level of anxiety when it comes to some medical procedures. Especially when it may be a procedure you haven't had before. Don't be afraid to mention to your doctor or nurses that you are having some anxiety about your procedure. They will be able to give you something to help calm your nerves. Stay positive, and things will be fine.

I get the cysto every 3 years, as I have a neo-bladder from putting off going to get looked at 17 yrs ago.
The anticipation is worse than the actual procedure as the only nerves involved are in the glans
And remember, the medical staff has seen hundreds if not thousands of those things, so just go with a good attitude and it will be done quick
Good luck, keeping you in our thoughts that it's nothing serious.
And gor everybody else, be a man and get checked, if not for you then for those who you love

Howdy Coonman. I had bladder cancer roughly 17 years ago. Had absolutely no pain or sickness, but one day lots of blood in urine. The worst part of the cysto is when they push the trap door open that goes into your bladder, then when they move the scope around to see different areas of the bladder. You may wince a bit but then it's all finished in maybe three minutes. You might pee a few air bubbles afterward but no big deal.
The worste part of the procedure for the removal of the pimple sized cancer growth was having to use a cathetor for three days. Then follow up cystos every three months the first year, every six months the second year, then once a year for a couple more years. Now I get one evry few years and hardly feel it anymore.
Good luck to you! We're u in hospital for 3 days when had it remove?

They remove cancer an went home that day ? I just got estimate of bill. If no ins pay it, $4900 something for short appt with scope, for eye appt this week, 2800 if no ins is what charge is not to come across sounding like I am belittling you, but really, your worried about 5 grand? when its your health........................................it COULD be cancer, could be an infection, could be a kidney stone that is rattling around still small enough to not be painful but big enough to be slicing your kidney apart. yea yea I get it, money is tight, but if the medical facility you are going to doesnt have a social work or ombudsman there to help you with the costs, then go somewhere that does. let me tell you, i was peeing blood for 2 days finally went to hospital and was immediately placed in a trauma room had a catheter in there in seconds, had blot clots coming out tumor had filled my bladder after i got stabilized, about 5 days, the doc went in and lazered the tumor out, but the damage was done. 2 months later i was in surgery for removal of the bladder, prostate, a section of urethra and a bunch of lymph nodes. I was 47............................................ 47, one of the youngest people recorded to have had bladder cancer, and one of the youngest to have a neo-bladder. it aint no joke bro, go, get checked out and this goes for the rest of you all too

Oh man Trapper Red very sorry to hear about your ordeal. I was only 41 and I thank God often that mine was discovered early and removed before ruining my bladder.
I didn't have insurance back then but luckily had some savings in the bank. Got big discounts for paying different things in advance but still paid nearly ten k when all said and done. Dang dude, 41........... As you were probably told like myself, bladder cancer is an old man disease Saw my urologist back in January, he's seeing more and more guys in late 40s and 50s now. It's only 1 of the cancers when caught early responds to treatment well

Dont worry about it Coonman. It is what it is,and you cannot change anything by worrying about what ifs. Wait until your doctor appointment and deal with whatever you have to deal with. Many many people deal with all kinds of stuff.Remain stoic. Stoicism is something we all should practice,in a nutshell stoicism is not worrying about and acept the things you cannot change and change or deal with the things you can head on. Practicing stoicism will remove great burdens from your mind and soul.

I figured they set the retirement age at 65 because you would never make a full months work without needing a day off for the doctor visits many people a day a week
my parents by 63 were at the Dr every week sometimes a few times between themselves and taking their parents
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Doctors find things wrong with you. $$$. Know a guy that lived till 93. Never seen a doc in his life. Another that was 87. Went 1 time to get antibiotics for a dog bite at about age 80.That made him sick . He didn't go back.. I've seen 1 doc about 15 years ago. (59) now. Spent 1/2 hour with him and cost me 450.00$. Cute nurse took my blood pressure and he lectured me on not eating fried foods.

I am with you! I haven't been to a doctor in probably close to 10 years. The only reason to go to a doctor is if Super Glue won't stop the bleeding. Spoiler alert! We are all going to die sometime and I am not wasting any time worrying about something that I can't change.
I have nothing clever to put here.

For every guy/gal that never went to the Doc and lived to 90 there’s another thousand that died in their 60’s but could’ve lived to their 90’s had they went. I like the odds of finding something out early and shooting for triple digits. More power to you if that is what you want. I have no desire to have my life revolve around doctors appointments, attending friends funerals and hoping I can make it to the toilet on time. Men in my family tend to die young and that is just fine with me. You want to live to be 100 and I hope that you make it to 110 then.
I have nothing clever to put here.

They’re gonna find me leaned up against an old pine with my turkey gun across my lap and a spent shell ejected out the side. I’ve told my son before any calls are made to find my turkey before worrying about getting me out of there! I have a dear friend who's brother went this way chasing elk. He found him sitting down, rifle across his lap staring at the stars. I wish we are all so lucky.

All the doctors appointments will keep you limping along for 20 years beyond when you're last able to hunt.

Whats the point of being alive if your not living any more?
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Glad you are doing well Dave! Hope you continue to take care of yourself. As always, we are here for you if you need us. Even if some on here give you a hard time (myself included) sometimes.

That's great news, Dave. Thanks for letting us know, and I'm happy for you.
Maybe now you can start making some plans to do a little extra trapping this year, or even make it to some of the trapping conventions we will be having around the state. We'd love to have you come and visit. You're always welcome.
