If you drove I-43 from Green Bay to Milwaukee you saw miles and miles or tens of thousands of dead trees. The further south your drove the more dead trees you would see. Yes a few other species may be dieing but living 8 miles west of 43 I would guess 95% of the dead trees are ash. We have all three kinds here and a lot of those Poygan muck lowlands where ash trees thrived and not all are dead. There is not as of yet any real way to harvest or utlize all that fiber. We had little to no winter logging here last winter as there was little to no ice or frozen ground in the wooded areas.

Ash got smoked in Michigan 10 years back. We’ve had the best firewood stash imaginable ever since.

Definitely a dry year causing some early dropping on the species I’m seeing. Crops here and crisping up in a hurry, too.

Surprised Al Gore isn’t out sounding the alarm.

Trees here on the coast are way brown. Lots dying from the past four years of beetle infestation. More pronounced above the dark rocks on the coastline. Large stands dying and cut by wind shear. The violent rains in the fall through spring have literally erased beaches, and made new vast slides.
But, with that you can see the emergence of growth. Significant events are absorbed here, given how large the land is. I attribute it to natural cycle.

What is new, becomes old.

I ain’t here for a long time…. You know the rest….

The American chestnut (Castanea dentata) and American elm (Ulmus americana) are both North American tree species that have been devastated by exotic fungal diseases:

Has anyone noticed there isn't as many dinosaurs as their used to be?

Maple trees here are starting to die off. From what, not sure.

I see a dead pine in between two healthy ones. I don't get that.

Just a learning note that any maples you see now that still have green or yellow leaves are most likely norway maple invasive in most area's not native .

Japanese beetles will strip everything green off any trees. The traps they make for them draw any live ones to them.

Some individuals use statistics as a drunk man uses lamp-posts — for support rather than for illumination.
