As far as oil didn’t the Saudi just say they were increasing production to drive down oil prices, so tin foil hat time the Saudi payed Iran to do this knowing their oil fields would be bombed to keep the price up, this would be a stretch of a conspiracy theory but plausible.

Oil flows to where it can be refined. Even though oil is fungible it has different chemical compositions. Some refineries are designed to process heavy sour crude and some refineries are designed to process light sweet crude. The United States currently uses somewhere north of 20 million barrels per day of crude and produces 13 million barrels per day of crude. We are by no means energy independent. Saudia Arabia has drawn a line in the sand and declared they are willing to accept lower crude prices in order to maintain market share. A poster above correctly stated oil shut in anywhere affects oil prices everywhere. Biden used the SPR to influence the 2022 midterms. We should be refilling it now but probably aren't because of the 2024 election. A widening of the current middle east conflict will send prices higher.
