Im trying to figure out why gas prices arent advancing. I guess my question is; what is different now than when it was advancing?

Who really knows, but the world economic activity has been slowing due to several economic and political factors and it does not take much of a reduction in usage to drop the prices a bit. Northern hemisphere spring tillage and planting is past, our Memorial Day Holiday is past. Will be interesting to see how fast and when the countries start to replace their strategic reserves. That could keep prices at levels well above typical usage levels for several months.

Crude oil has a cost to extract. When the price goes up it makes sense to go after more costly crude. So a well that isn't worth the lease may become economically viable.

I saw it for $3.99 near Williamsport, PA on Sunday. That's the first I've seen under four bucks in a while.

4.49 $ here in more or less mid Ohio. One company owns 95 percent of all the gas stations in a 30 mile area. They have a solid lock on the market.

I'm in Iowa. We were as high as $4.49. Gas was $3.99 yesterday.

An interesting side note. When Brain Dead Biden was in office, bird flu was an issue. Chicken flocks were being wiped out right and left. 100,000 birds here, 500,000 birds there. Egg prices went through the roof. Now Trump is in office. A few months ago, a huge layer farm in Iowa caught on fire. 6 million chickens perished. Image 6 million birds gone all at once. Egg prices haven't fluctuated at all. What changed ?

Work arounds.............. given some time the oil exporters effected by the impairment of straight navigation will find ways around it. SA has opened an existing pipe line to the Red Sea, UAE is finishing a pipe line by passing the straight, I read that Kuwait is talking with SA to use there pipeline to the west. Iranian oil was not on the open market, prices were disrupted because other producers were limited in getting the products to established markets. that will be resolved

Gas price gets jacked up over the littlest of things happening. They keep climbing until sales go down, then they drop the price to bring sales back up.
Been that way since horses went out of style. Where you been?!

Makes sense to me. Maybe with all these work arounds gas prices will get manageable again.

Our gas came down a few cents but is still $5.44 for regular. I had to get some nonethinol a couple days ago $6.19

I think your last sentence describes how supply and demand works, though. When supply is limited and demand is steady or high, prices go up. If either supply goes up, or demand goes down, then prices come back down. That is how it is supposed to work. Certainly not a "crime". Just the capitalism the country was founded on. Perhaps you'd rather prices be set by the government? IMO, THAT would be the crime.
