LL, You should've drove over to Georgia last weekend and watched my otter demo. Could've swung way up to Ohio and got Killbuck to come with you.

LMBO @ Swamp Wolf! I'd have loved to have caught that but if I had to drive thru OH you can bet I'd have been there to drop somethin off not do any kind of pickin up.
On 2nd thought I could have listened to all 5 bobcat stories and still have a dab of windshield time to absorb knowledge from basically a walkin, talking, lippin off human copy of tge Webster dictionary!

You can "neck" down an otter set muck like a cat set. I'll catch a ban if I post what I really think of yer tip. I've watched 5 otters swimming on TV jack...

You can "neck" down an otter set muck like a cat set. Maybe Killbuck will chime in about how a walk-through with duck feathers won't work for otter or cats. And a turd will completely ruin the set.

Turd wont ruin the set. Piece of garden hose might. Have never set for otter either but caught one in a caster mound set. That's a beaver set, look it up. … 1 otter and 5 rabbit back cats ? Dangitt !… have you written your book yet ? … you got to leave some type of memoir of your adventures

Otter are predictable in their travel. If an otter uses a travel route once it and others will use the same path. Blind setting for otter is paydirt when you locate their travel pathways.Same spots will produce year after year.

Don't waste your money on "otter" lure. Unless you find solid otter dirthole locations at otter toilets....then a musky lure is your friend. There is a "unless" or a "but" in everything. Never say never.

To get an otter to move a few feet on a toilet t(o where you want them) lures may help. Other than that I say their use is kind of pointless.
On toilets I have used collected otter scat from other areas and squirted a little shellfish oil on top and got considerable interest from visiting otters.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

I don't think anyone mentioned gang setting for them. They travel in multiples. I have often caught more than one in a single location setting. Also, be patient. Don't pull your sets to soon. I had a set where a tree had fallen across a stream. Made 4 body grip sets along the tree where I thought an otter might go through. After almost two weeks of nothing was surprised to find 3 caught otter. Two were caught in a single Belisle. That was a first and last time I ever had that happen.
Grandkids are so much fun. We should have had them first.

Just like the other guys say- be patient. They have a large territory and it takes a while to come back sometimes. I usually put three body traps in a row on good stretches of a run or up the back of a dam or crossover. I have gotten three in a row before . Sometimes I think I should have set more traps.
Just passin through

During the rut when trapping toilets you don't need to be very patient. If I don't get action in 3-4 days it probably was a dead toilet.

That was a good payday BP back when they were avg 200 bucks. 14 otter today would net you around 850,still not bad.

I have only caught five. Three were in buckets set for coon when I lived at the coast. They went in for chunks of fresh yellowfin tuna. They used to climb into boats at night and rob fresh fish from coolers. They also ate a lot of blue crabs, which I considered using for bait but never did. I can't imagine having fresh chunks of yellowfin tuna for bait - pretty sure I would be stuck in that bucket.
