I’m all for job creation wherever.
I’m not 100 % sure this isn’t just tossing a life preserver out in Iowa before November considering that the company is from India and they have checkered past of failed projects and bankruptcy. Is India America first? I’m only asking as a member of the site continuously discusses colored minorities in Canada as a real cancer. Lol

"Matt Christensen, an investigative journalist for KWQC in Davenport, IA, did some digging. He titled his findings “Done deal? Despite White House claims, major hurdles remain for Iowa’s $15B steel plant”. He set the table by writing: But the arrangement still needs to overcome major hurdles — including land acquisition, permits, and financial incentives — before construction can start.
To flesh out his contention that the “done deal” is anything but, Christensen points out that a review of Lee County land records found no major property purchases tied to the project this year. County officials say they don’t have details from the company about its plans. And no permit applications have come before supervisors.
In addition, the Iowa legislature is meeting this Friday to discuss the financial incentives the state might offer to attract the project. Companies typically don’t start building $15 billion plants without clear financial projections that include an estimate of their tax costs, etc. Or an understanding of what related infrastructure – access roads, power delivery, et al. – the state might build."

"Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds on Tuesday called lawmakers back for the special session, saying “reasonable and limited updates” to the state's economic development program were needed to advance the project proposed by Mesabi Metallics, a Minnesota company owned by the India-based conglomerate Essar Group.
The terms of an agreement between the state and Mesabi Metallics have been outlined in a memorandum of understanding; neither provided a copy when asked for one.
Reynolds has proposed up to $1.36 billion in incentives over a 10-year period through Iowa's Major Economic Growth Attraction program. The special session will allow lawmakers to adjust the program to better align with the needs of the proposed project.
"Certain things had to happen, and apparently the MEGA program doesn't quite fit some of those details. And so that's what the purpose of the legislative session is, is to sort of tweak the legislation a little bit to make sure that this particular program is going to fit," said University of Iowa political science professor Tim Hagle.
While the specific location remains undisclosed, elected officials have indicated the project is set for Lee County. Still, the chair of the county board of supervisors said this week that the company has not yet committed to the project site."

In all fairness and jabs aside, there is actually a trade deal in place. Carney hasn’t backed out of it and wasn’t the leader in Canada when the trade agreement was signed. There is somebody in power who signed the trade agreement though, he even touted it as the best ever of course because he signed. It is that person who “backed out” on a deal actually. Feel free to look into that. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Did Trump back out because Canada would not stop China from dumping steel in Canada and wouldn't label it as Chinese product to escape tariffs. Sounds typical for countries with no ethics. So now it was the US that backed out,not Canada?-good to know, lol. Cant believe a fekken word out of there anymore.

"Canada currently imposes a 25% surtax on most Chinese steel and aluminum imports, established in October 2024 to counter market distortions and overcapacity."
"Effective March 12, 2025, the United States imposed a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum imports from Canada under President Donald Trump’s executive orders"
."U.S. tariffs on Canadian steel currently stand at 50% for most products, effective June 4, 2025, when the rate was increased from 25%"
"As of 2026, the effective U.S. tariff rate on Chinese steel is approximately 75%, resulting from a 50% Section 232 national security duty stacked with a 25% Section 301 tariff. "
