I go out on a local reservoir about an hour before sunset. Let the wind drift me. Drag frogs along the bottom. Catch channel cats.

Yup, did those as a kid but I bass fished at night alot and would switch to bullheads if bass weren't hitting that particular night. I ice fished calico & bluegills at night for sure.

brown trout fishing the Hex hatch at night.
The Hex hatch is the largest mayflies in N. America.
Flies hatch starting after dark.
On a good hatch there are flies everywhere.
They land on your face, in your hair all over you.
Wading a river in the dark, feeling your way around.
The trout feed wildly. the rises to the flies sounds like someone is tossing rocks in the river.
The largest Browns are out and feeding heavily.
You cast your flies to the sound.
When you hear a rise you set the hook or you feel the hit and strike.

Nothing like it.

I used to night fish many nights during the Spring and Summer. Most of the spots near where I live now close at dusk.

Michigan, as well as States west are blessed with a ton of little lakes where there is only a 2-track leading to a drag mark at the lake’s edge.

Back in 1990 my youngest son was station at Grand Forks AFB in ND so me, being alone as a relatively new widower went to visit. As I drove from Michigan towing my 12’ boat, through Wisconsin, and into North Dakota I fished and bushwhacked camped every night on little lakes as I previously described and ate fish every day!!!

Have caught tons of catfish at night. Best night i had a 48lb flathead 2 that were 15-18lbs and a channel cat about 10lbs. Water was flooding. Have had nights i have caught 50+ fish all channels and blues but none were big big fish.

Green Bay has a group of dedicated shore anglers known as Monster Squad. They target trophy walleyes and muskies. They usually fish all night long with the best action between 3 and 4 am. Kind of funny when some guys are getting up early to hit the dawn bite and Monster squad is about calling it quits for the day.

Used to bass fish till after dark then go frog gigging. Those were some great times. Now I mostly shore cast for walleyes during the full moon period. Almost screamed like a little girl a few times. Ya look down and there's a big old coon looking right at you. One time had an otter swim right up to me and do that chat bark noise they make. Things like that make life interesting.

In my defense I was left Unsupervised

In these parts night fishing for bass is about it. TOO many buckeyes on the lake with their wake boats and cruisers to fish. Get your guts beat out plus too hot.

Musky fishing after dark with a topwater lure can be pretty exiting.

Fishing for anything with top waters after dark is very exciting. You hear the splash and wait to feel the weight before setting the hook. Or sometimes you just can’t wait and set the hook anyhow. LOL

Yes one lake we have walleye on since I was a small kid. You'd be lucky to catch a fish there before dark.
