I just hold the guard in place by hand and tack then weld.Trap is secured in the jaws of a vise grip by the base. The vise grips are welded to a 1/2" nut thats threaded onto a rod that is held in a vise. This way I can clamp the trap in do one chew guard turn the trap and do the other side.

LOL Blak Coyote hold and tack, you missed reading about my welding skills.

(Some of the welds much to my dismay came to the edge of the jaw which makes the guard look flush.)

Im using shielded wire and it makes it difficult to see the bead with all of the fumes.

That is a great set-up and quick too.

Thanks

Cletis

Nice Job Cletis! Yes...modifying traps is sure a bunch of work. I've done up some Dukes where there is so little stock trap left...might as well have made the whole trap up from scratch...LOL. Performance wise..well worth the time to mod traps. But after about 5 dozen...you start questioning your sanity...LOL.

I think I'll be saving my time and buying MB 550s and MB 450s anymore. I just got some of those and am very impressed. Must be getting lazy... or maybe just smarter...don't know which...LOL.

I'm starting to think the same way TLC . Those 550-450's right out of the box clean and wax add anchor system of choice and go.

Thought....do you really need BOTH guards? I'm picturing a coon only being able to work one side (the side w/o guard)just thinking out loud here...might be interesting to see what the results would be???

Guess it matters whether or not you catch a right handed coon in a left guarded trap.........LOL

Looks like a fine job to me Cletis. Blak is probably one of the best in the business, so his input is as good as it gets. If he says they look good, then you done it right. Thanks for the pics.
