Red Rooster OP trapper R Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 82 West Central WI	I have a chicken thief that needs to be delt with. The problem is that there are several "precious cats" that live on this property. I have never tried caging them before but I do have a 15" x 15" x 36" live trap. Any advice? I have tried searching the archives but came up with nothing. Thank You in advance.

Just pick up a soft catch trap if your really worried about the cats. I have released a lot of pet cats without causing any damage with my Bridger 1.65 offsets. Place an open can of sardines in oil or water in a depression, place the cage trap over the can of sardines so that the trap pan is half way over the can of sardines, and stake the cage down to prevent digging and shaking. Make sure you put it in a good location. This Fox was eating chickens and so was a cat! Good Luck! "FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS!"

I do have a couple of softcatch traps that I will use farther from the barn but I would like to see if I can catch one in the live trap. Should the cage be "brushed in" or just exposed? They are all live traps. kill traps are conibears (body grippers) power snares and such. Dont let the AR media machine alter your reality. I have heard of reds in cages, but I have never had success personally. Anythings possible but I wouldnt call it an efficient method.
