I have a chicken thief that needs to be delt with. The problem is that there are several "precious cats" that live on this property. I have never tried caging them before but I do have a 15" x 15" x 36" live trap.

Any advice?

I have tried searching the archives but came up with nothing.

Thank You in advance.

No such thing as a precious cat!
I think it would be tricky getting a red into a box, When he has nice fresh chickens just a waiting for him!

I don't think your going to get a red into a box trap. I tried years ago for about a month and it didn't work. Just pick up a soft catch trap if your really worried about the cats. I have released a lot of pet cats without causing any damage with my Bridger 1.65 offsets.

Place an open can of sardines in oil or water in a depression, place the cage trap over the can of sardines so that the trap pan is half way over the can of sardines, and stake the cage down to prevent digging and shaking. Make sure you put it in a good location. This Fox was eating chickens and so was a cat! Good Luck!

Thanks guys, I trap another propery that these people own so I don't want to screw that up. I do have a couple of softcatch traps that I will use farther from the barn but I would like to see if I can catch one in the live trap.

Should the cage be "brushed in" or just exposed?

Thank again for any help!

Either way as long as the brush don't get in the way of / or slow the trap throwing.

lol

Gotta go with Paul on this one. Live trap = Foot traps, cage traps and cable restraints. They are all live traps.

kill traps are conibears (body grippers) power snares and such.

Dont let the AR media machine alter your reality.

I have heard of reds in cages, but I have never had success personally. Anythings possible but I wouldnt call it an efficient method.

Have caught young reds in 12x12 safeguard(wildlifepro.net for pics)used ALPO under trap.
If you go with the rubber jaw traps be very careful of the cats?Have some nice scars from cat bites!
