What's your preferred way to attach them?

Quik links. I've been using them for a couple of years without any complaints.

I attach with J-hooks. Helps with the theft problem. Quick links would be my first choice, otherwise.

The only problem that I can see is that they can be a pain to open. Especialy, if you are doing it out on the line. I have a heavy duty s-hook tool and I have problems with gettng them open in that setting. I am thinking if you leave the anchor or you have to change the trap out. Maybe it is the tool I use I don't know.

I use my cable cutter to open my j hooks take very little time or effort just put the nipping part where the hook closes and squease opens right up. this is another one of those things dealers wont tell you. lol

For those that use J Hooks, where do you attach your puller if you want to pull the stake? Just wondering if that hook would straighten some?
Thanks

Any opinions on split rings for smaller critters like coon and fox and for watersets?

I have a J hook tool. It's great for closing J hooks but for opening them up...can't beat 2 pairs of fencing pliers. That's what I use. One in each hand and a quick roll of one and the J hook is open. I only run the heavy duty #6 J hooks.

I use mostly quick links that are tightened extra tight with pliers. Most theives don't have a pair of pliers on them.J hooks are alright as well if they're new.I could do without split rings because you'll lose something eventually.

Buy one of Ron Marsh's J-hook tools and you won't ever have a problem.
